Alt Key + Mouse Scroll is the New Text Zoom In/Out in NetBeans

Geertjan Wielenga

When the text zoom in/out, via "Ctrl Key + Mouse Wheel", was introduced in editors in a recent version of NetBeans IDE, many people cheered. Others booed because the combination "Ctrl Key + Mouse Wheel" is often pressed accidentally, especially when the user scrolls in the editor while intending to use some Ctrl shortcut, such as paste, which is Ctrl-v.

So, in NetBeans IDE 7.2, the text zoom in/out is now "Alt Key + Mouse Wheel":

Remember that the text change only persists for as long as the file is open. So, if you've accidentally resized the text (i.e., in the current situation, prior to 7.2, where unintended side effects may happen because of Ctrl key usage), you can just close the file and reopen it to get the text size back to the way it was before.

Hi Geertjan. I must commend your tireless effort on spreading the NetBeans gospel (especially the platform). Am a developer from Kenya. Since I started using the NetBeans IDE (back in 2009, as an undergraduate) I discovered the development of Java apps on the platform. Presently, I develop commercial systems. I would like to share what relevantly imaginative solutions can be achieved when you use this platform. How can this be done?

http://netbeans.dzone.com is a great place to write articles about NetBeans. And if you send me some screenshots of your apps, I'll add them to the NetBeans Platform showcase: http://platform.netbeans.org/screenshots.html

To activate th Ctrl Molette zoom go to Tools->Options -> Shortcuts.

Edit "Zoom in", press Ctrl so that CTRL + appears in the shortcut description. Click on the arrow on the right hand corner of the input (where you have clicked to edit the shortcut). A little box appears with buttons such as MOUSE UP, MOUSE DOWN, etc. Click on MOUSE UP.

Attention, if your Netbeans is not in English (for instance French), you have to edit "Zoom in", and not "Zoom avant".
