Just as quickly as it came around, Oracle Openworld (OOW) Europe is over for another year. But don't worry if you missed out on attending or want to relive the experience all over again - we have rounded up some of the best bits to help you recap an amazing two days at the London ExCeL centre, and to keep the buzz going for a bit longer!
The event was bursting with incredible speakers and interactive activities, but arguably the most talked-about aspect was the #OOWSWING. This feature really helped attendees get into the swing of things and contributed to an overwhelming sense of fun, that kept the mood light in between intense and rewarding sessions.
Attendees could start their day by grabbing the 'world's best coffee' from a stand run by Oracle customer Illy, and end it with freshly made cures and networking drinks.
Behind the scenes at Oracle Consulting Digital Experience (OCDX) we prepared endlessly to make sure your experience at London's biggest tech event of the year was an unforgettable one.
For this year's demo we decided to bring you our E-Voting solution, with the aim of demonstrating how Oracle Blockchain technology can be used to improve voting experiences through a secure, digital platform.
With such a variety of incredible speakers and sessions on offer at OOW, E-Voting was also the perfect opportunity to find out who attendees thought was the most impressive!
We generated QR codes that could easily be scanned by a smartphone camera to access our E-Voting site, and for phones lacking this feature we prepared Near Field Communication (NFC) cards, which brought up our webpage when held close to a device! Next, users simply had to enter the unique two-character PIN found on their card, enabling them to select their favourite talk from the drop-down list.
A digital receipt was then displayed so attendees knew their vote had been anonymously registered and they had contributed to the results, which were updated live on a screen in the Consulting Hub. The use of blockchain in this instance helped to protect the system from fraudulent voting activity in order to provide accurate results, and reduced errors as entries were recorded in a tamper-proof ledger.
This solution was originally developed by the Italian OCDX team, and you can read more about the technology behind it in this blog post.
It was a close call with many speakers claiming the top spot for a while, including Oracle CEO Safra Catz, who delivered an engaging anchor keynote to open the event.
Other contenders included British astronaut Major Time Peake's stellar closing speech, which dazed the audience with (literally) out-of-this-world experiences, and Dr Hannah Fry's talk 'How To Be Human in the Age of the Machine'.
But there could only be one winner, and the people's favourite turned out to be TV presenter Dara Ó Briain, who closed the first day of OOW with a hilarious half-hour of comedy.
Over the course of the event the Consulting Hub, where our OCDX stand was located, was constantly full of energy, conversation and innovation. Customers from many different industries had the opportunity to talk to our consultants about their business challenges, and we were able to explain how we can use cutting-edge technology and expertise to solve them.
Some customers joined us at the event to share their positive journeys with Oracle Consulting. These talks included:
