Swedbank Eliminates Risk of Unauthorized External Assignments with Oracle PaaS

Oracle Database Cloud Service enabled us to reduce risk by providing greater control of our user profiles and roles. Oracle Consulting was a great help by introducing us to this cloud service and highlighting the key features that aligned with our business requirements.

Swedbank AB is a Swedish banking group with operations in the Nordic and Baltic countries. The bank's roots in the Swedish savings bank history go back to 1820. Swedbank has 7.3 million retail customers and more than 650,000 corporate and institutional customers, making it Sweden's largest bank in terms of number of customers.

 

 
 
Challenges
 
  • Minimize the risk of employee engagement in external assignments which may give rise to conflicts of interest with the bank’s activities—such as involvement in real estate companies that compete with businesses that are the bank’s customers
  • Replace the existing system for reporting employees’ external assignments with a modern solution that eliminates the risk of manual errors, and ensures a high data quality level
  • Ensure employees do not have so many commitments outside work that it negatively affects their performance at work
  • Choose a solution that is extra user-friendly, as it is a system for infrequent users

Results

  • Replaced the existing semi-manual and insufficient system with Oracle Database Cloud Service and Oracle Java Cloud Service, and eliminated risk—such as bad public relations—because employees are engaged in unauthorized external assignments
  • Saved a lot of time—including 30 minutes of manual work per application, amounting to 900 hours in the last six months—through system automation, which can be used to streamline the bank’s core business, such as financing and insurance
  • Enabled high quality data, as the employees fill in all the fields in the application form, unlike in the past, and by eliminating the risk of manual errors and the risk that outdated information remains in the system
  • Ensured, through system controls, that employees do not have so many commitments outside work that they cannot achieve the objectives of their human resources performance development process
  • Chose a solution that employees can use immediately without education, and reduced the pressure on the bank’s IT support team

 

 

We chose Oracle Database Cloud Service and Oracle Java Cloud Service because they were the only solutions that met our needs. Their platform is user friendly and flexible, but most importantly we received valuable guidance and recommendations from Oracle Consulting.
