Protecting the Electric Grid in a Dangerous World

Required by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the
North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP)

standards mandate is sweeping security programs across North America’s electricity industry. North America’s power suppliers and distributors are under
intense pressure to protect the bulk electric system (BES).

Web-based portals and applications are essential to business, but open up electricity suppliers to the same attacks that plague financial institutions,
online retailers, and healthcare providers. The industry’s efforts at self-regulation notwithstanding, the federal government initially responded to this
threat with a set of security standards for protecting cyber assets that comprise the BES, and set an aggressive schedule for mandatory compliance.

The industry recognizes the threat and the goal, which is not compliance, but national security. Power suppliers and distributors are coming to grips with
a new environment in which closed and more secure control systems are exposed to the world -- in some cases, a hostile world.

This recently released Oracle whitepaper entitled Protecting the Electric Grid in a Dangerous World, outlines Oracle’s
approach for integrated identity management and data security products for the bulk power industry that offer an effective, defense-in-depth security
strategy to help meet this challenge, playing a key role in NERC CIP compliance, security, and efficient use of resources.

At Oracle Consulting Services (OCS), we help clients in the electric
industry by providing expert services to assist these companies with planning and deployment of Oracle’s Identity Management and Database Security
solutions. With our deep expertise in Oracle Solutions, Oracle Consulting can help clients protect their environment with the security solutions they need
to succeed with architecture/planning, implementation, and expert services; which, in turn, provide faster adoption and return on investment with Oracle
