If you have followed IT over the last 10 years, you have probably been amazed by the evolution of cloud computing. While doing research, I came across an interesting article entitled Evolution of the Modern Cloud: How the Cloud’s Value Proposition is Changing by VentureBeat guest blogger David Politis. Although slightly dated (Nov 28, 2013), the short article does a terrific job of articulating the rapid evolution of modern cloud. From very early on, the allure of cloud computing was a significant reduction in IT expense. But by the mid 2000s, things like ubiquitous internet access and the explosive adoption of smart mobile devices altered the cloud’s value proposition dramatically. Today, the value proposition has changed yet again with powerful APIs connecting disparate applications to form a seamless web of IT. "The cloud now offers an open and integrated experience for both end users and the IT department." says Politis.
Given emerging mega trends like big data and the "internet of things", I am interested to learn what you think about the modern cloud and how it will continue to evolve over the next 3-5 years? Share your thoughts in the comments area below.
