Creating Data Control in Jdeveloper from REST Service in Oracle Database

Cross posting from original post by Gökhan Göksu-Oracle

In this post I will be showing you how to create data controls for a mobile application in Jdeveloper to consume a REST service deployed as a RESTful Service Module on Oracle Database Cloud.

Oracle REST Data Services (formerly known as APEX Listener) is a JavaEE based implementation that offers increased functionality, enhanced security and file caching for REST resources.

For the mobile application we will use the A-Team Mobile Persistence Accelerator which is a lightweight mobile framework that enables data synchronization and persistence. This comes as a plugin that we can install in Jdeveloper (Help>Check for Updates)  At the backend, we will use the RESTful Service Module ''  which is already deployed as an example service in an Oracle Database Cloud instance that exposes methods to select from employees table.

In Jdeveloper, start by creating a simple MAF Application called HR_REST. Then right-click the ApplicationController project and choose Business Tier > Mobile Application Framework > MAF Business Objects from REST Web Service in,,,continue to orig post.

Oracle CloudWorld: The Recap

There was a buzz in the air at Oracle CloudWorld in San Francisco last week at the Westin on Market Street.  It was a great opportunity to hear Oracle's strategy for the Cloud across Applications such as ERP, HCM, Eloqua and other as well as Oracle's strategy for Mobile.  There was something for everyone with a floor dedicated to demos and numerous sessions for all interested.  CloudWorld in San Francisco is just one of several locations worldwide where this event is being held.  CloudWorld is slated to take place in Melbourne, Moscow, Beijing and Chicago - so if you missed last week, not to worry, it's coming to a city near you!

CEO, Larry Ellison delivered an energizing keynote in the afternoon to a packed audience.  He focused on Oracle's investment in HCM and why it sees this is an important initiative and one that requires additional staff resources and greater innovation in order for us to maintain our leadership position in the market.  Following his keynote, there was a good amount of time set aside for Q & A from the audience.  Among the many sessions, the one not to be missed was delivered by Ray Wang, Principal atConstellation Research. He had a very well attended session that covered what a sales cloud-related product should entail (feature, function and address which business needs) .

In the News: Verizon and Oracle Partner for Better Cloud Access with Fusion Middleware

It's exciting to hear that Verizon Enterprise Solutions and Oracle have partnered to allow customers to use Oracle Fusion Middleware and Database on Verizon cloud infrastructure.  Customers can bring their own Oracle licenses to the Verizon cloud platform or buy Verizon cloud services which include Oracle licenses.  What's even more interesting is that with Fusion Middleware on Verizon Cloud, customers can leverage existing assets and pay only for what they need versus having to purchase perpetual licenses.  It's win-win for all parties, more cost effective deployments and taking on-premise software into the cloud. Click here to read all about this new partnership.

3 Podcasts: Middleware Meets Cloud

Microphone Pic Courtesy of Tranchis on FlickrThere are still a few more Fusion Middleware Forums yet to go before we land on our feet at Oracle Openworld in San Francisco. But before we reach San Francisco on October 2nd, we’ve begun to consolidate many of the topics in our forum event on the importance of Cloud computing in today’s IT, and specifically Middleware’s pivotal role in making Cloud a reality.

Below are 3 important podcasts that you should download today. And definitely stay tuned for more like these on our Fusion Middleware Podcast channel.

  1. Cloud and SOA: Avoiding the Accidental Hybrid Cloud Architecture - As enterprises expand their formerly internal infrastructures into a hybrid cloud mix of internal and external cloud (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS), IT departments have increased pressure to ensure their cloud partners do not put their infrastructure at risk since these partners are now effectively part of the 'internal' infrastructure. Hear Maneesh Joshi (Director of Oracle SOA & BPM) and Bruce Tierney (Director of Oracle SOA Suite) discuss these challenges and 3 key solutions to ensure IT doesn't lose control by repeating a hybrid cloud version of the pre-SOA era 'accidental architectures'.
  1. Applications in the Cloud: A Development Paradigm Shift in Collaboration - Hear Oracle Sr. Director of Product Marketing Howard Beader discuss how Oracle WebCenter delivers the next generation of collaboration and enables application building and assembly in the Cloud computing era. Cloud computing is changing the way enterprises build applications. An effective Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) implementation includes a Shared Services layer which provides a rich array of reusable components and services for the enterprise to assemble into composite applications. Populating an effective Shared Services layer with the appropriate services and components and assembling them into valuable applications requires unprecedented collaboration and cooperation across the whole enterprise.
  1. Cloud Performance, Scalability, and Elasticity with WebLogic and Coherence - Listen in with Ruma Sanyal (Director of Oracle WebLogic and Coherence) and Yogesh Rami (Director of Oracle Exalogic) discuss the importance of Oracle WebLogic and Oracle Coherence as part of the Cloud application foundation. The foundational software for today's mission critical private clouds needs to provide enterprises with virtually unlimited scale, unbeatable performance, previously unimagined management simplicity, and guaranteed reliability. It needs to be at the forefront of innovative cloud capabilities, such as usage management, isolation and security, self-healing and more.
