Siebel and UCM
By Raoul on Feb 19, 2009
Great news - the integration of Siebel and UCM has been announced officially. The sales sheet isn't up on oracle.com yet, but I'll update the post when it goes live.
We have been working on this integration on an ad-hoc basis for the past year or so and have a couple of clients live and a couple more in progress. The release of this productized adapter, though, makes everyone happier and really adds a lot to the Siebel Call Center application (in my humble content-centric opinion).
I'll add that this is another example of how content is increasingly being integrated as part of fusion middleware and the fusion applications. We already have the IPM integration with PeopleSoft and EBS, and now we have UCM integration with Siebel following in the footsteps of UCM workflow integration with BPEL Process Manager.
What this means for all of you is that instead of a flat Siebel Files storage repository, you now have the option of versioning, enhanced security, workflow integration, content conversion, retention management, and all of the other rich functionality that UCM provides; and it works seamlessly with the Siebel Call Center GUI.
I recently took a Siebel architecture class and we discussed some of these capabilities with customers there, and they all were very excited with the idea of Retention Management and version control within Siebel.
I'll dig into this in more detail in the next week or so.
