FOSS.IN Featured Speaker: Juergen Schmidt

Meet Juergen Schmidt, OpenOffice Architect at FOSS.IN this week.

In his own words...

My name is Juergen Schmidt and I am working since more than 10 years for Sun. And there in the StarOffice/OpenOffice project team. At FOSS.in I will give a presentation on general programmability feature of OpenOffice.org. And I will do a workshop where I will explain two demos step by step to introduce extensions development to my audience.

I am excited to be at FOSS.in (the first time) because I am happy to have the chance to spread and share my knowledge around the programmbility features of OpenOffice.org that is more than a simple office suite. Extensions are a good and much easier for developers to get started with OO.org code base. And extension developers of today are probably or hopefully the core developers of OO.org of tomorrow. I believe in open source and I think it is important to attract as much as possible developers to help all the different open source projects.

FOSS.IN Featured Leader: Michael Bemmer

We are glad to have Michael Bemmer this week at FOSS.IN. Michael is the Director of Engineering for OpenOffice/StarOffice team.

More about Michael:

Michael Bemmer is the Engineering Director at Sun running the OpenOffice.org/StarOffice team in Hamburg, Germany. He's been around in the team in different roles for more than 12 years. In the OpenOffice.org project he once was the QA lead, kicking QA off as an official project, which fortunately nowadays is one of the most agile ones.

Why is Michael excited to attend FOSS.IN?

In his own words...

This is both my first trip to India and my first attendance of Foss.in. As a believer in global engineering I'd like to verify first-hand all the good things I've heard about talent and enthusiasm in India. For OpenOffice.org and other open source projects to grow, India can play a very important role.

Why is Frank excited to be attending FOSS.IN?

In his own words...

There are a lot of open source enthusiasts in India. I want to enthuse some of them to be part of the growing documentation community and help users and developers to adopt OpenOffice.org around the globe.
