Prep Your POS for Eat Out to Help Out

Tim Brown
Vice President, Global Sales Consulting, Oracle Food and Beverage

Earlier this month, the UK government announced a new incentive program to help bring diners back to cafes, pubs, and restaurants across the country. The Eat Out to Help Out Scheme will give diners a discount when patronizing participating businesses (see details below) in the month of August.

The announcement was made on July 8th, and since then our solution engineering, development, and consulting teams have been working around the clock to help ensure that every one of our customers can sign up for the scheme and can track its efficacy simply and effectively using technology. The newly developed Oracle MICROS Point of Sale System Eat Out to Help Out Extension makes it easy for restaurants of all sizes to manage the back-end administration needed to take advantage of the new scheme.

Since lockdown began in March, restaurants, bars, and cafes have seen a steady decline in their sales, and although the UK officially reopened hospitality venues in early July, uptake on dine-in has been slow. This new incentive could provide a real boost to those struggling now and we are keen to help as many of our customers as possible sign up and get involved.

We understand that the thought of administering the scheme and reporting back to the government could be daunting, but this simple extension takes care of all of that. Starting now, Oracle MICROS Simphony and RES customers can install this free extension, ensuring they are ready to serve customers without any limitations or messy back end manual calculation.

For more information on the Extension download our FAQ file here, access the Simphony documentation here, and access the RES 3700 documentation here.

The Eat Out to Help Out scheme is a great example of creativity and desire to help our industry rebuild in the wake of current events. Make sure you are primed and ready to take part and that your customers old and new know you are ready and waiting for their orders.

More About Eat Out to Help Out

The scheme is designed to encourage consumers to dine in restaurants again, providing a discount on meals for all diners (including children) purchased on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays during the month of August. Each diner will have 50% of their meal paid for up to £10 per head, and there is no minimum spend. The customer does not need to present a voucher to take advantage of the offer, and the discount does not apply to alcoholic drinks or service charges.

Who Can Sign Up?

The scheme is open to any establishment that:

  • Sells food for immediate consumption on the premises.
  • Provides its own dining area or shares a dining area with another establishment for eat-in meals.
  • Was registered as a food business with the relevant local authority on or before 7 July.

Where Can You Register?

Registering is simple (learn more here) and the government has designed lots of look up tools to allow customers to see who is partaking in the scheme.
