Comments:

Oh great! I just last night upgraded to 2010.02.09.1.0,1-1.15! Oh well, that worked fine, so I suppose we want those dedupe fixes! Thanks again for your continued improvement of the platform!

I turned on dedupe on a 7110 on several shares that were running VmWare VM's. The results were disastrous. The VM's would hang occasionally for a couple seconds at a time halting network connections and causing timeouts in many applications. Can this be explained by the bugs that were fixed or is this just a limitation in the 7110 because of the lack of ARC2 and ZIL?

Another issue was say you had a share that you created a VM in and had dedupe turned on at the time. You then turned dedupe off shortly thereafter. A couple weeks would pass and you decided you wanted to delete that share. There is nothing indicating that you had dedupe turned on at one time. Thus knowing about problems mentioned above you had to cross your fingers hoping that the share you were deleting did not have dedupe turned on at one time, because if it did the entire 7110 would be locked up for the next hour while dedupe was analyzing what it needed to get rid of.

Don't get me wrong, I love our 7110, but I have a feeling dedupe was not meant for it without some SSD drives invloved.

P.S. I am also having problems getting SUN SPectrum support for my 7110 that was purchased during the transition of SUN to Oracle. My vendor is having issues and I also an not getting any response back from the sales dept at Orcale via -> Solaris-Subscriptions_ww_at_oracle.com. I need help. :)

Let me clarify, the problems I had with dedupe were not on this new release but the previous one.

Upgrade to this revision went without a hitch!

Oracle is making it very hard to find where to download the update. The A-Z listing only shows the previous firmware. I used to go to sun.com/support and then click on StorageTek Support, but the link doesn't appear to work any longer.
