Echo Chambers?

Fascinating article over on The Register entitled SCO, Groklaw and the Monterey mystery that never was. Its a lot closer to the history that I remember around project monterey.

Whats interesting is the commentary about online forums turning into "echo chambers" (or could that be Harry Potter and the chambers of conspiracy?). The current echo on slashdot around this story is sadly predictable.

Comments:

Problem is the author of the register article doesn't understand the case and so he actually makes the point groklaw was trying to proven, in that oldSCO knew from the beginning that PM was also going to be on IBM's PowerPC arch.

But the thing is that was common knowledge at the time, there was no secret about it from any of the parties involved - in this case groklaw is making a mountain out of a molehill. <p /> But the bigger point is about the nature of online forums, people tend to form views which may not be factually correct because they keep being told what they want to hear, and some forums are particuarly bad for this.
