"Time waits for no man" and other bugs

As the old saying goes "Time waits for no man" but if your were running VirtualBox 1.6 with a Solaris guest, time sometimes stood still. This was because of a bug which has been fixed along with a few others in a new bug-fix release of Sun xVM VirtualBox 1.6.2.

If you downloaded VirtualBox 1.6, then you should probably go get this updated release. There are a few rough edges in 1.6 that have now been smoothed. For the full list of bugs fixed check the ChangeLog.

And the manual has been updated too.

Comments:

I'm trying to install OSOL_2008.05 as a VirtualBox (1.6.2) guest on my Linux host. (I'd tried the OSE version and then purged it from my system and now have the Sun package for my distro.) The Virtual Box guest additions CD automounts a version 1.5.6 ISO with a Linux and VBoxLinuxAdditions.run and a .exe but no .pkg file. The Linux executable wants GCC and Make and then asks for the build and header files for my current Linux version ("5.11"). Not very confidence inspiring. Is there another ISO I can download? What do I need to do? Thanks!

It could be that your old guest had the Additions iso still mounted from the last time the guest was run. Ensure you unmount the CD/DVD then try Install Guest Additions.

Thanks, yes, it was something like that. I got it to work but am not sure now of the precise order of the fix, but it was probably like:
\* unmount image
\* remove from virtual disk manager
\* shutdown image
\* reboot virtualbox
\* add new ISO to virtual box
\* boot image
\* automounter spotted CD image and mounts it with correct version.
