Feedback Requested

For the past four months, the Fusion Applications Developer Relations team has used this blog to offer information we think is valuable for the broader Fusion developer community working on customizations, extensions or integrations.

We still have a lot of ideas for topics we think need coverage, and there are blog posts in the queue or being actively worked on.  But we want to take a moment to ask you, our readers: what topics would you like us to spend time on?  What areas do you face challenges in?  What types of posts help you the most?  Please hit the comments and let us know.  Thank you!

What are the steps to binding to a Web Service? A walk through of the process.

If we take as simple a service as possible such as CreateEmployee.

What are the steps to initiate a call to this service.

There are always going to be a few extras but it should very much be a repeatable process. For example if I start a new ADF project in JDeveloper I get the start page and checklist of items that need to be completed, create a database connection, build my business components, security etc.

From a Fusion perspective what is that checklist

Locate the service - URL in Browser to view service
Bind and create client code - Java or BPEL or BPM
Security requirements - What authorization do I need to access this service, How do I know if I need a username & password
Testing - Using soapUI, EM or other tools

Maybe then step 2 is to call out of Fusion Apps to an external service.

But on a wider scale I see adoption for a new technology such as Fusion Apps in an industry that contains a lot of PLSQL & Forms experts is going to need as many of these simple examples as possible. A lot of the EBS developers I work with wouldn't know where to start.

Hi Oliver,

We already talked about this through the mail and I agree with the other comment that a step-by-step guide for simple examples would be great.
e.g.
- starting with the installation of JDev, configuring the domain, creating the customization workspace, then making a change, then testing it with integrated WLS.
- Adding a parameter to a Custom ESS Job definition in JDeveloper
- Making a field required in Fusion
- etc...

Martijn

Hi Oliver,

This blog is very useful and lot of information extracted from many documents and simplified for the people to start with Fusion Customizations. Starting from finding the jdeveloper, Setting up the JDeveloper to doing few customizations.

I would like to give the below points, please check this can be added
1) If we have any videos on the customizations, extn. please share the links.
2) One single page to see all the posts with the links
3) Option to download the topic as a .pdf file.
4) Regarding the website note sure my laptop display is having some problem ..etc,
the entire page is not being used and lot of space between the lines, if we could use the entire page to display the contents we can have the entire pages added.

Not sure my above comments are already available but I am not aware of it.

With regards,
Kali.

Could you please explain use case of SOA Composer with an example and step by step instructions? This would really help us in customizing the workflow which will be there in all implementation projects.

Thanks,
Mehabub

Hi Mehabub,
SOA Customization for BPEL, Mediator etc is a design-time (JDeveloper) task only right now. Offically the "SOA Composer" is a run-time tool with fairly limited functionality, namely domain value maps for converting values, and non-approval rules configuration.
I just published an introductory blog article with more details here: https://blogs.oracle.com/fadevrel/entry/getting_started_with_tailoring_business
Also there will be more examples and how-to's coming from FA Developer Relations for FusionApps SOA customization, and feel free to share any specific information requirements or challenges.
Kind regards
Richard

Can you please also include a topic on FBL in the context of Update Business Objects (Like person created in HCM from application UI)? There may be scenario where Fusion is Master Data system and will be updated based on feedback from a third party system. I know it can be done if we create using FBL and then again use FBL for updating. But what happens when we create using application UI, let's say Hire Employe, and then want to use FBL to update?

This will really help us to use FBL for data sync.

Thanks,
Mehabub

Is it possible to publish list of Inbuilt OTBI Analysis/Dashboard available for HCM, FSCM and CRM? If some one wants to modify them as per requirements what should be best practice to follow so that Customization and Maintenance become less prone to error?

Thanks,
Mehabub
