From OpenWorld: Oracle Cloud Marketplace

Announced today, the Oracle Cloud Marketplace offers ISV's, partners, and even applications customers the chance to share their own applications, extensions, and utility services to help complement existing on-premises and/or Oracle Cloud applications. Using the AppStore paradigm, shifted to the world of Enterprise Applications, the marketplace allows you to search and browse the applications available for deploying to your Oracle Cloud environment, exposing very detailed specifications as well as a nice ability to run full demos.

It will certainly be very interesting to see how the Oracle Cloud Applications platform evolves now, based on both the constantly developing Fusion Applications suite and this well-organized plug-and-play enterprise app content. For a more detailed overview of the Oracle Cloud Marketplace see this YouTube video.

Fusion Apps Release 7 (including JDeveloper) Now Available On eDelivery

Fusion Applications Release 7 has been published on eDelivery, and with it comes JDeveloper/ADF 11.1.1.7.1 and the matching Fusion Applications Companion. Search for the media pack for Release 7 or just follow this link for the Win64 media pack. Please note that as with all Fusion Applications releases, it is important that you use the matching version of the development tools, so don’t install this as an upgrade to your earlier version of JDeveloper if the version of Fusion Applications you are developing for is not Release 7.

August in Review

It seems like I wrote the July recap post just last week, but in fact another month has passed and a busy one it was for us.

Vik continued his series of weekly ADF How-Tos and we now have seven PDFs and YouTube videos out there giving you step-by-step guidance on doing some of the most common customization tasks in JDeveloper.  More are in the queue.  And by popular demand, Jani wrote a detailed getting-started white paper for ESS development.

Richard continued to crank out new YouTube videos at an amazing pace.  We now have 35 videos out there, and many of you have subscribed to the channel.  If you haven't yet, please consider subscribing to make sure you don't miss any new releases.  Also, let us know which topics are of interest to you (the "Like" feature in YouTube is perfect for that, or leave comments).

The Oracle Learning Library now has a lot of our media content, offering you a one-stop shop for all things Oracle.

A Look Behind the Curtain

One of our responsibilities that usually does not get much public visibility here is working directly with individual customers or partners on a particular problem.  Some of the issues we worked on in the last few weeks were in the area of web services, clearly an important area for many of you working on Cloud integrations.  The lessons we learn will become the topic of future blog posts and how-tos.

As you may have seen, one of the OpenWorld keynotes given by Larry Ellison will focus on the Oracle Cloud Platform and cover, among other things, the Java Cloud Service.  This is a technology/service that our team has spend quite a bit of time with in recent months from the perspective of an extensibility platform for Fusion Applications.  More on that soon.

OpenWorld 2013

We're on the final stretch in our preparations for OpenWorld.  The session schedule has been published and we'll publish a post soon with some recommendations for our community.  Our work on the one day seminar run by Oracle University continued during the month of August, and there's another exciting project we can't quite talk about yet.  Keep an eye on this blog!

News From Other Teams

Misha Vaughan from the User Experience team gives a run-down of UX activities at this year's OpenWorld on the VoX (Voice of User Experience) blog.

Over on the Usable Apps blog, Ultan O'Broin has a report about a recent "Building Great-Looking Usable Apps" workshop in Brazil.  Keep an eye on his blog for upcoming workshops in other regions.

On the middleware front, the ADF PM team has released several new videos on the ADF ArchitectureTV YouTube channel.  If you are working on ADF-based extensions or customizations, this is a very valuable resource.

Downloading Older Versions of JDeveloper Explained

Today is Labor Day in the United States, so while our US-based team members (and readers, I hope) enjoy a long weekend, here is a quick tip to start off the week for everyone else.

As explained in previous blog posts, eDelivery is the site where you can download the JDeveloper version and Fusion Applications Companion for your version of Fusion Applications.  There are currently two versions available, Release 5 and Release 6.

eDelivery Download of Fusion Applications

The general policy is that the two most recent versions of the Fusion Applications suite (including JDeveloper/Companion) will be on eDelivery.  So when Release 7 comes out, expect for Release 5 to no longer be on eDelivery.

What if you need an earlier version?  It is still available, but you need to follow the steps in My Oracle Support document 1071023.1 to request access to it.
