Just In: Latvian Server Sets New Comms Delivery Record

The things you learn while at a Comms Summit dinner. John D knows what I'm talking about. I do have the photo proof, but right now, I can't figure out how upload from my camera to a SunRay. You'll just have to wait.

Here's our Latvian server on the far right.
As JohnD indicates in Comments, there was a lot of stress from our sometimes confusing and out-of-sequenced requests. Nonetheless, no food was dropped in the process and we all left feeling that we had come across a high-scalable and performant server indeed.

Take a break for some blues. Blind Willie Johnson's "Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground." Chilling.

Note: The first pic that comes up is not Blind Willie Johnson, but Blind Willie McTell.

Friday Blues Blogging

I'd like to take this Friday's edition of Friday Blues Blogging to remember my good friend and bass playing companion, Walter Chase, who died Sunday, January 20, after a year and half long bout with cancer. As this article points out, Walter was a musician who would play for any cause. Walter, I know you are in a better place now. Here's a little sumthin' for you.

I'm a little groggy this morning after attending the Reverend Horton Heat extravaganza last night in Colorado Springs at the Black Sheep. The man puts on an awesome show. Here he is doing Big Sky, which he opened with last night:

The Rev also laid into some great covers, including Folsom Prison Blues (Johnny Cash), Ace of Spaces (Motorhead), and Paranoid (Black Sabbath). Talk about covering a lot of musical ground.

Look Ma, No Wires

I'm not sure how many people (geeks) will have to this situation, but I've figured out that you can share a wireless printer between a PC, a Mac, and a Solaris machine.

Last week I bought a new HP PhotoSmart C7280 all-in-one printer, to both replace my aging ink jet and to be able to share it amongst the various computers in my house. It's a wireless printer--meaning, look Ma, no cables. You can place it conveniently anywhere in the house. Configuring PCs and Macs to print is a snap. You basically tell the printer what wireless network to use when you turn it on (it will detect your network and your neighbors'), then install printer drivers on your PC/Mac. Piece of cake.

The Solaris piece was harder (well, let's say less obvious), until I stumbled across a utility called CUPS. I installed this on my Ultra, went through some arcane UNIX commands, and then voila, I'm printing from Solaris host now.
