The March 2011 issue of the Database Insider Newsletter includes the following article.
A recent white paper by Merv Adrian, principal at IT Market Strategy, explores the remarkable business impact of Oracle Exadata. Exadata Innovations Drive Greater Customer Value in Third Generation examines how coordinated development of the entire product stack--from storage server to compute server to operating system to database and surrounding software--has created innovations in the latest generation of Oracle Exadata Database Machine X2-2 and X2-8 configurations that drive additional value for customers.
"Oracle Exadata has gone through several iterations, with each one delivering more speed, simplicity, and cost-effectiveness that change expectations. Exadata momentum is clearly well underway and demonstrating that existing and new Oracle customers can achieve remarkable improvements in operations, cost-effectiveness, and value delivery." For example:
- Hokuriku Coca-Cola Bottling reduced capital investments by consolidating three data stores onto a single Oracle Exadata system. Consolidation was significantly less expensive than upgrading each system on its own separate servers.
- Allianz Managed Operations & Services used Oracle Exadata Database Machine to implement a dramatically simplified model of operation as a result of its Oracle Exadata implementation. The time for one extract, transform, and load (ETL) transaction was reduced from almost 12 hours down to 2.5 hours.
Oracle Exadata's increased performance improves a company's ability to meet vital business requirements such as the need to easily support large user populations or respond quickly to changing business conditions. Bokwang Familymart, a Korean convenience store corporation, significantly improved order-processing speed and boosted analytical performance.
"Order filtering--a multistep process of collating orders, validating product codes and transaction dates, and confirming stock availability--was previously a 15-minute step. It now runs in 30 seconds."
