Thanks to all participants! Looking forward to next year event

Our Community Forum in Budapest has come to an end. Great real-time demo from FORS showing the database cloud they have now in place where partners can carry out proofs of concept and ISVs can test their applications with all the new DB12c Options (In-memory, Multitenant,...). We are all now ready to go to market with the sales plays presented by Olivier Tordo, equipped with the competitive information provided by Nick Drew and the modern marketing tools presented by Christian Peter.

The third award for top contributors to the Community went to Mark Revitt.

How Engineered Systems Became The iPhones Of The Data Center

ForbesBrandVoice
Connecting marketers to the Forbes audience. What is this?

Just over five years ago, Oracle completed one of the tech industry’s boldest acquisitions with its purchase of Sun Microsystems for $7.4 billion. At the time, skeptics questioned whether the pairing of companies would work, given their unique corporate cultures and product lines.

But Oracle founder Larry Ellison saw huge potential in bringing together the technologies of Oracle and Sun to create integrated computer systems that were greater than the sum of their parts. In that, Ellison shared a design philosophy with his friend, the late Steve Jobs, cofounder of Apple, based on the idea that highly integrated systems were superior to those cobbled together with non-optimized software and hardware. For Jobs, the manifestation of that integrated design philosophy was the Apple iPhone. For Ellison, it was Oracle engineered systems.

Guide to Private DBaaS - Customer Insights

Database clouds enable efficient consolidation of servers, storage, and database workloads.By utilizing the multitenant architecture Oracle Database 12c, customers can reduce operational costs, reduce the impact of maintenance and risk of failures, and become more agile in the data center. This includes rapid self-service provisioning of database services, and monitoring and metering of performant, reliable and secure database services on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Three customers (KPN, a telecommunications firm in the Netherlands e-DBA, a technology service provider in the UK, and State of Texas, a U.S government agency) share their DBaaS insights in the following guides:

Summary: Analyst firm Ovum attended Oracle's January 21st X5 Engineered Systems launch and authored an analysis of the news and expected market impact.

Key findings about the new X5 generation of engineered systems noted in the Ovum report, titled, "Oracle engineered systems are now going to compete on price" include:

  • Oracle is competing head-to-head with converged system industry leaders on price
  • Oracle is going mass-market in price while delivering premium performance
  • Oracle has sold more than 10,000 engineered systems units to date
  • Oracle is  going full bore with the commodity Intel 2-socket architecture which allows Oracle to reduce the price-point
  • An example of this includes the latest model of Oracle's Virtual Computer Appliance which is significantly less cost than Cisco UCS
