Learn how to use commonly available and understood tools to migrate, convert, and upgrade Oracle Database instances when moving from Linux to Oracle MiniCluster - by Kevin Klapak
Coalfire - the independent Cyber Risk Management advisory firm - has published a new whitepaper that provides information to IT professionals implementing Oracle MiniCluster within a Cardholder Data Environment (CDE) or production environment, as well as a Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) or IT auditor tasked with assessing them. MiniCluster features, compliance test results, and published controls were compared with the PCI DSS 3.2 requirements and SOC 2 criteria and analyzed for meeting compliance requirements. The Detailed Notes section reports how these controls meet or support PCI compliance.
The Oracle Database Exadata Cloud Machine has been launched this December. Exadata Cloud Machine or ExaCM is the cloud-based Oracle Database subscription service available on Oracle Exadata, but deployed in the customer data center behind their firewall.
Exadata Cloud Machine uniquely combines the world’s #1 database technology and Exadata, the most powerful database platform, with the simplicity, agility and elasticity of a cloud-based deployment. It is identical to Oracle’s Exadata public cloud service, but located in customers’ own data centers and managed by Oracle Cloud Experts, thus enabling a consistent Exadata cloud experience for customers – whether on-premises or in Oracle public cloud data centers.
Effective December 13, 2016, Oracle Platinum Services is now available with an updated combination of certified components based on Oracle engineered systems: Oracle Exadata Database Machine, Oracle Exalogic, Oracle SuperCluster systems, Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance Racked System, and Oracle’s Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance.
We have revised the Certified Platinum Configuration matrix and it now includes the following key updates:

In this white paper, IDC discusses the inherent difficulties associated with traditional backup schemes and the changing dynamics of data protection strategies. They examine Oracle's Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance (ZDLRA) and the role it can play in providing significantly improved service levels for all types of Oracle databases.
"IDC interviewed eight organizations about how they are using Oracle Exadata to support their database-related workloads. These organizations reported that, by moving to an Oracle engineered system platform optimized for running database-related workloads, they better and more efficiently leverage their organizations’ data to their business and operational advantage. As a result, the organizations are achieving better business outcomes and efficiencies through improved database performance, scalability, and reliability. On the basis of these interviews, IDC projects that these Oracle customers will realize average annual business benefits worth $157,712 per 100 users and a breakeven point of 11 months, which would result in a five-year return on investment (ROI) of 429% "
