2018: A Landmark Year for Exadata

As we celebrated Exadata’s 10th anniversary in 2018, Exadata’s ongoing commercial success and fast pace of innovation signal that this fabulous journey is just starting.

This year Exadata continued to raise the bar for Database availability, manageability and performance. During 2018 Exadata got Database 18c availability, Oracle Linux 7 support, and new Machine Learning capabilities to help automate system management. We also accelerated software releases to a monthly cadence for faster security and critical fixes, in line with Oracle’s longstanding commitment to security. In addition, Exadata Cloud also got a major functionality bump with Exadata Cloud at Customer Release 18.1.4.

Besides continual innovations in software, a key to Exadata’s success is our commitment to integrate and leverage new technologies. We look forward to embracing Intel’s ground breaking Optane DC Persistent Memory in our Database and Exadata architecture, and in 2018 we announced a joint hardware beta with Intel that enables our customers to discover the potential of Persistent Memory for their own use cases.

Our innovations are meaningful only insofar as they are proven in the field by real customers with real workloads, and our customers are adopting them a steady pace, whether it be Exadata Snapshots or Database In-Memory or Exadata Cloud. Exadata’s superior capabilities and value are validated by its deep and wide adoption in the marketplace.

Today 3 out of 4 Fortune Global 100 companies run Exadata, and a quarter have already adopted Exadata Cloud -- the ongoing addition of highly differentiated Autonomous services will further this momentum. 2019 will see more innovations in Autonomous Database and the release of Database 19c, the most advanced database in the world. And we will continue to bring in more hardware and software innovations to Exadata including Persistent Memory.

We couldn’t have accomplished all of this without the support and engagement of our customers, our partners, and our own field, support, and marketing teams. A big thank you from all of us at Oracle Development. We wish you happy holidays and all the best for the new year. See you in 2019.
