Q: In particular, does the one Oracle instance see all the storage ? Also, is it possible to run two non-RAC instances on one ODA, one on each node ( I assume not ), and if so, how is the storage divided up? A: The underlying software is Grid Infrastructure in alll cases (EE; RAC One Node and RAC). It is the database that is either created as single instance, RAC One Node Instance or 2 RAC Instances. The storage is always shared. Technically you can two Single...
Q: Is Triple-Mirroring the only supported option, or is dual-mirroring an option, albeit one with a reduced resilience ? ( I know it is an option in ASM, but does ODA let you do it ? ) A: Triple mirroring cannot be changed. Oracle Appliance Manager is built to ensure triple mirroring.
Q: Does the interface to Oracle Enterprise Manager allow you to set the system up from OEM, or will that only work on systems that have already been configured ? A: We use oakcli to set the system up, OEM is not supported. Also patching using OEM is not supported
Currently the only supported way to patch components in the Oracle Database Appliance is to use the Appliance Manager patching module. The patching module will also patch the RDBMS and GI software. There are plans for the future to integrate the Appliance Manager with Oracle EM, no time frame available yet.
It depends on the patch. One or both nodes could be rebooted.A reboot (either one or both node) will not accor every time a patch is applied.A reboot will accor when the OS, the ILOM or storage firmware need to be patsched, patching other components doesn't require a reboot. It's possible to reboot one node when we patch shared storage components (SSDs and Shared HDDs). The readme file of the patch will provide the infromation if the patch requires a reboot. In future there...
The preferred way to achieve Active/Passive protection for DBs is RAC One Node. RAC One node is fully support solution and integrated with other features in the Clusterware and RAC. Also RAC One node will allow your customer to scale to RAC (2 nodes) easily with very minimal down time. Please refer to MOS note 790189.1 to get more information.
ASR is a feature of the Oracle Warranty and Oracle Premier Supportfor Systems. The premier support includes other things such as enhancedservice levels, ASR, etc. It is thus included provided the customer haswarranty and premier support.
