Happy Earth Day 2007

One random thought on Earth Day (US version): I think we need a second one that falls on work day. I believe that over the next few years we're going to find that, for many people, the biggest environmental impact they can have is related what happens at work, not at home. It's just a hunch, but in this consumer and service driven economy, I bet I'll be proven right.
Comments:

Agree. And because work is where economies of scale, repeatable processes and standardization are critical, everyday needs to be Earth Day.

Given Sun's anti-used Sun equipment policies demonstrated in pricey "recert" fees to obtain Sun maintenance, or outrageous re-licensing fees to receive a valid Solaris license, I'm wondering how they can espose an eco-freindly corporate stance. These "you didn't buy new from Sun" penalties ultimately force end-users to scrap equipment that has useful life... where they likely end up in a landfill. How does this contradictory behavior not concern legitimate eco friendly organizations?

I'm checking with some folks on the service issues you've raised and will post what I find out. On the trash v. recycling side, we will takeback anything for free (some shipping costs may apply), so hopefully less and less is ending up in the landfill. An upcoming website update will make it much clearer on how to return depending on your geo.
