Printing with AutoVue Client/Server Deployment and Java JRE 8u25 and up

As you may already know AutoVue Client/Server Deployment as well as AutoVue for Agile PLM uses Java JRE on the client side in order to bring up the AutoVue client applet which is used to open files. In the latest release of AutoVue we certify Java SE 8 and higher (both 32-bit and 64-bit). We try to be as up to date as possible because we understand the importance of keeping up with all the changes on the functionality and the security side which comes with every new Java JRE release. Now when using Java SE 8u25 and up you may start seeing problems when trying to perform a print using AutoVue. The modify printer button is inactive and can’t be clicked on making it impossible to change the printer selection. This issue is a known compatibility issue between AutoVue and Java printing introduced in newer Java JRE releases. To find a solution to this printing problem please refer to Note 1939630.1 in My Oracle Support.

Troubleshooting printing-related issues with AutoVue

Not long ago I posted an article related to troubleshooting connection issues with AutoVue Client/Server Deployment. Following on that theme - since the majority of my posts originate from our Customer Support team - I wanted to highlight a different troubleshooting guide that was recently published in the My Oracle Support portal:

Note 1621489.1 - AutoVue Printing Troubleshooting Guide

This knowledge base document is as the title states - a troubleshooting guide for different types of printing issues that may be encountered on rare occasions with AutoVue (primarily related to the printed output not appearing as the user expects). Printing is impacted by many factors (print drivers, user-defined settings, input document, Java version, etc), and the troubleshooting guide provides a consistent approach for narrowing the scope of the issue and gathering the necessary details and logs to resolve it.
