Real-Time Collaboration 201 - The Supply Chain!

You can set up AutoVue's RTC capability to make it very easy to host real-time collaboration sessions with external users - your supply chain, for instance. If you aren't already familiar with our RTC functionality, I'd suggest you check out my RTC 101 blog post.

With our recent AutoVue 20 release, we've changed the licensing of our RTC feature, so that external users who are taking part in an RTC session do *not* need to be licensed users of AutoVue, as long as a licensed user hosts the session. This makes it much more feasible to use AutoVue RTC for external design reviews with your supply chain, for instance.

The recommended approach is to set up an externally facing portal where the user enters their name and their collaboration session ID, and the portal then launches the AutoVue client and automatically joins them to the collaboration session. This is quite easy to do, for the more technically minded among us, this can be done via a single applet paramater or javascript function.

I'll provide an example of this in an upcoming post.
