Interactive troubleshooting using knowledge Assistants

Over the past couple years our Support organization has been publishing a number of new types of content in the My Oracle Support (MOS) knowledge base, beyond the standard/static how-to and problem-solution documents. More recently, we've been working on a new type of document - or more specifically a tool - called Assistants.

Assistants are interactive documents that guide the reader through a question tree towards known solutions for specific areas of troubleshooting. Oracle is in the process of creating Assistants across all of the product lines, and the first one we created for AutoVue is for a subject area dear to our hearts:

Assistant: Troubleshooting Connection Issues when Using AutoVue Client/Server Deployment (Doc ID 1615930.2)

Here's an example of a particular question tree, which in the case of this Assistant goes 2-3 layers deep before presenting known solutions on the right:

Make sure to check it out, share your feedback, and let us know (via comments in the document or through this blog) what other subject areas you'd like to see for new Assistants!

Visual Information Navigator: Next Generation Interaction Paradigm
The business value of IT systems is essentially based on establishing, understanding and manipulating relationships between business objects. For over 30 years, this has meant screens showing tables, rows, & columns. The look & feel may have evolved over the years, but the same paradigm has remained. Is that still the best way to visualize and manipulate relationships? We believe there is a better paradigm that will radically improve the quality & “attractiveness” of the user interaction. Join us for an interactive session featuring Oracle’s new visualization & interaction paradigm called Visual Information Navigator, which is being deployed within Fusion Supply Chain Management Applications.
Date:             Wed. February 5, 2014
Time:            2:25 pm – 3:20 pm
Speakers: Thierry Bonfante Senior Director, AutoVue and Visualization Development
Rozita Naghshin Senior Principal Product Manager, Visual Information Navigator

AutoVue Streaming File Best Practices

One of the key features of AutoVue for optimizing file load-time performance is the use of AutoVue “streaming” files (previously called “metafiles”). Recently our Support team published a knowledge base article with answers to common questions related to streaming files, as well as a few best practice recommendations - similar to what's already in the docs, but packaged in a way to quickly learn the topic. Make sure to check it out:

KM Note 813021.1 - AutoVue Streaming File Cache Best Practices

The note also includes a very brief comment regarding “pre-generation” of streaming files, a topic which is gaining more traction as customers look for ways to fine-tune the performance of their AutoVue deployments. If you have best practices or experiences designing/implementing streaming file pre-generation for AutoVue, feel free to share your thoughts either through the Comments feature of this blog, or through our AutoVue Community in the My Oracle Support portal.

Oracle’s AutoVue Enables Visual Decision Making

That old saying about a picture being worth a thousand words has never been truer.  Check out the latest reports from IDC Manufacturing Insights which highlight the importance of incorporating visual information in all facets of decision making and the role that Oracle’s AutoVue Enterprise Visualization solutions can play.

Take a look at the excerpts below and be sure to click on the titles to read the full reports.

Technology Spotlight: Optimizing the Product Life Cycle Through Visual Decision Making, August 2012

Manufacturers find it increasingly challenging to make effective product-related decisions as the result of expanded technical complexities, elongated supply chains, and a shortage of experienced workers. These factors challenge the traditional methodologies companies use to make critical decisions. However, companies can improve decision making by the use of visual decision making, which synthesizes information from multiple sources into highly usable visual context and integrates it with existing enterprise applications such as PLM and ERP systems. Product-related information presented in a visual form and shared across communities of practice with diverse roles, backgrounds, and job skills helps level the playing field for collaboration across business functions, technologies, and enterprises. Visual decision making can contribute to manufacturers making more effective product-related decisions throughout the complete product life cycle. This Technology Spotlight examines these trends and the role that Oracle's AutoVue and its Augmented Business Visualization (ABV) solution play in this strategic market.

Analyst Connection: Using Visual Decision Making to Optimize Manufacturing Design and Development, September 2012

In today's environments, global manufacturers are managing a broad range of information. Data is often scattered across countless files throughout the product life cycle, generated by different applications and platforms. Organizations are struggling to utilize these multidisciplinary sources in an optimal way. Visual decision making is a strategy and technology that can address this challenge by integrating and widening access to digital information assets. Integrating with PLM and ERP tools across engineering, manufacturing, sales, and marketing, visual decision making makes digital content more accessible to employees and partners in the supply chain. The use of visual decision-making information rendered in the appropriate business context and shared across functional teams contributes to more effective product-related decision making and positively impacts business performance.
