Oracle recently released Oracle Weblogic Server 12.1.2. Here we look at some of the new features and enhancements.
Support for new Web App protocols Weblogic 12.1.2 supports HTML 5 and Web Sockets along with new support for JSON-REST services with two types of input and output formats: XML and JSON.
Better Oracle Database 12c support Weblogic 12.1.2 now fully supports Oracle Database 12c including support for the new database's advanced features such as application continuity and multi-tenancy. Application continuity allows an application to continue running even when the database is down. Multi-tenancy allows your applications to choose which specific tenant databases they can connect to.
Enhanced support for Maven Updated plug-ins, POMs and archetypes make it easier to build WebLogic, Coherence, TopLink, and Fusion Middleware applications with Maven-based repositories and build systems.
Dynamic Scaling Weblogic 12.1.2 adds a dynamic clustering capability whereby new managed servers can be spun up and added to an existing cluster to react to increased load or performance issues. It includes a set of diagnostic tools that watch memory and processor usage, which the administrator can monitor to see if the cluster needs to change in size. With the continued popularity of cloud-based infrastructure-as-a-service, this sort of elastic scalability is a natural progression for Oracle.
JMS Another new feature which goes hand in hand with dynamic scaling is the ability to target JMS servers and file stores to an entire cluster, rather than a single managed server instance. This capability promises to simplify the HA configuration of JMS, since the old method of making JMS highly available was to use Weblogic’s service migration features. Administration for JMS has been streamlined and the new JMS can speed data rates on Oracle Exalogic by up to three times (according to Oracle).
