This is a wonderful opportunity to consolidate both database and middleware infrastructure of our joint customers in one machine. As a first step we would like to invite you to watch our on-demand webcast.

At our WebLogic Community Workspace (WebLogic Community membership required) you can find the latest material:

As of March 2013, WebLogic Server Enterprise Edition (and implicitly included as part of WebLogic Suite) will include integration functionality to Oracle Database appliance ("Oracle WebLogic Software Kit for Oracle Database Appliance") The following can be obtained by deploying WebLogic Server EE in Oracle Database Appliance:

· Pre-configured highly available WebLogic Server with 2, 4 or 8 nodes cluster options that provide the foundation for the customers to build and deploy enterprise Java EE applications with support for new features in 11g (10.3.6) and 12c (12.1.2).

Announcement: WebLogic on Oracle Database Appliance by QUALOGY

Last week I was informed by Oracle of the fact that WebLogic Server Enterprise Edition (and implicitly included as part of WebLogic Suite) will include integration functionality to Oracle Database appliance (‘Oracle WebLogic Software Kit for Oracle Database Appliance’) on Oracle Database Appliance X3-2 hardware.
The following can be obtained by deploying WebLogic Server EE in Oracle Database Appliance:

  • Pre-configured highly available WebLogic Server with 2, 4 or 8 nodes cluster options that provide the foundation for the customers to build and deploy enterprise Java EE applications with support for new features in 11g (10.3.6) and 12c (12.1.2).
  • Simple, Reliable, Affordable platform for deploying end-to-end solutions leveraging not only Oracle Database RAC, but also WebLogic Server.

Now, a customer can be very fast in bringing up it’s WebLogic on ODA. These are, as Oracle tells, the general steps to take:

  • Implement ODA in your Datacenter
  • Download Database, WLS Appliance Manager and WLS ODA from EDelivery
  • Run the Oracle Appliance Manager and WLS Domain Configuration

Oracle Database Appliance X3-2: official launch

Today was the official launch of the Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) X3-2 in a webcast delivered by Oracle President Mark Hurd and Database Senior VP Andy Mendelsohn, and they were joined with a panel of 3 customers. Replay the webcast <TBC>.

This announcement has brought together a set of recent improvements to ODA:

  • hardware component updates,
  • an optional additional storage array,
  • a virtualisation option to allow you to run the database and other products in VMs,
  • a licence change to allow you to run Oracle Traffic Director (OTD) on ODA (not just Exalogic),
  • the packaging up of WebLogic and for ODA.

Oracle Middleware Partner Community Awards 2012–thanks for the nice ink!

Last week I attended the Oracle Partner Community Forum (SOA and WebLogic) in Portugal. Whilst I picked up lots of new nuggets of information from my peers and Oracle product management, one thing that caught me completely by surprise was being given an Oracle WebLogic Partner Community Award for "Outstanding WebLogic 12c Contribution 2012."

WebLogic Partner Community Award - Outstanding WebLogic 12c Contribution 2012I was quite touched by this - compared to the heady days when I used to work at a big SI (Logica) as small niche player recognition and thanks are relatively hard to come by! There are also a lot of very dedicated professionals out there and I'm only a tiny part of the whole Fusion Middleware community. I am honoured though and (in topical Oscars style..!) am very grateful to everyone who's helped me out on UKOUG SIGs and conference over the last year, in particular the Middleware Sunday 'crew': Jacco Landlust of course, Frank Munz, René van Wijk, plus those who I often call upon to bounce ideas around with, like Ronald van LuttikhuizenAndreas Chatziantoniou, Markus Eisele, Chris Muir, Steve Millidge and others whom I've almost certainly missed. Finally, Middleware Sunday wouldn't have been possible without Oracle's support, so a big thanks back to Jürgen Kress for that! Read the full article here.

WLST Tricks & Tips by WLST Examples

Here I prepared few sorted out Tips and useful Tricks for developing the WLST scripts, which I learn with my experiments with Programming Python commands for WLST scripts. These WLST commands can be applicable in WebLogic 9.x to WebLogic 10.3.6 or WebLogic 12c.

Tip 1. Know about Where are you On some situations you might need a clarity about which WebLogic version you are using. WebLogic 11g(10.3) has different sub-sequent versions 10.3.1,10.3.2,10.3.3 and 10.3.4, for all these the directory structure is ~/Oracle/Middleware/wlserver_10.3 which does not tells you about sub versions. Here WLST is having a solution for this problem,
You can find the current WebLogic version to which WLST is connected.
