Consumer digital assistants like these from Apple and Amazon have become commonplace in the home, but business users need to do tasks that are more complex than checking the time or playing music—a lot more complex, having to draw insight from a slew of enterprise applications. That’s why a new generation of chatbots is needed at work. The goal is zero user interface, meaning that people interact with a range of systems within their organization using voice or text messaging, using natural conversation via the platforms they’re used to, from Siri to Slack to WeChat.
