Playing Nice Together: Acme Bank & Proligence

Use the Consolidated Database Replay function of Oracle Real Application Testing in Oracle Database 12c to gauge the impact of consolidating workloads.

In the course of database consolidation, one of the big challenges for Acme Bank and its IT management was to predict the impact of workloads from several databases running simultaneously on one database. Using the Consolidated Database Replay feature of Oracle Real Application Testing, the DBA Lead showed how the application manager can accurately measure that impact. The consolidated replay testing techniques demonstrated can be used for all types of consolidation scenarios: relocating various databases into a single database as different schemas, creating various databases as pluggable databases in a multitenant container database under Oracle Database 12c’s multitenant architecture, creating separate databases in different virtual machines, or any combination of these techniques. The goal in any case is the same: accurate prediction of the impact of consolidation. And the Consolidated Database Replay feature of Oracle Real Application Testing enables exactly that. (Consolidated replay is also available in the Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c interface.)

Back from the Partner Community Forum in Prague: Thanks to all participants!

We had a great time in Prague with over 100 partners joining the event and an agenda packed with partners describing customer cases and Oracle speakers updating us about the products, the strategy and the competitive landscape.

Lots of networking during the coffee breaks and meals, and at the one-to-one meeting room!

Thanks to all participants and to all speakers! You make this event possible and you make it better year after year.

Presentation decks will be uploaded to the community workspace along next week, once speakers confirm their authorization to share. I will write a new post as soon as they are available.

Navigating the "Oracle on VMware" stack with the vC Ops Management Pack for Oracle Enterprise Manager

Join Oracle Partner 'Blue Medora' for a 30 minute webcast where you'll see Oracle on VMware as you've never seen it before...

vCenter Operations Manager EE with the Management Pack for Oracle Enterprise Manager maps all "target" data collected by EM12c and applies its powerful analytic engine to present a highly visual, intuitive interface for resolving performance issues before they result in down time, identifying where there is risk for future problems, and predicting when capacity will reach its limits.  It does the hard work so you can spend more time optimizing the infrastructure and less time reacting to the latest incidents.

In this webcast, you will learn how to use the vC Ops MP for OEM to:
  • Avoid potential issues by leveraging the deep relationship mapping functionality of the vCOPs Management Pack for Oracle EM to visualize the infrastructure components that are having issues, or are at risk, and how they impact Oracle workloads.
  • Identify root cause by using vCOPs Infrastructure views to drill through the Oracle on VMware infrastructure from the highest levels (example: RAC Cluster) to individual metrics on related VMware components (example: a VMware Datastore).
  • Perform impact analysis by graphically mapping the relationships of Oracle components (eg Oracle host, database, listener, RAC, ASM, etc) to the infrastructure components they're running on, including all of the VMware components such as Virtual Machines, ESX Servers, Data Stores, and more.
