Take Action: Ask your customers what is their database recovery strategy and share any or all of these analyst papers on the advantages of ZDLRA with them.
Alleviating Oracle Database DBA Data Protection Frustration by Marc Staimer, President of Dragon Slayer Consulting
“The Recovery Appliance is uniquely engineered and tightly integrated, hand-in-glove, with all of RMAN’s complete capabilities. Something that is simply not possible for all other data protection applications because they do not have access to the Oracle Database IP and source code.”

Oracle’s Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance – and Comparison with EMC Data Domain by Josh Krischer, Josh Krischer & Associates, GmbH
“With its modern design and extensive co-engineering with the Oracle Database and RMAN, Oracle’s Recovery Appliance provides much-needed data protection assurance for any business, small or large. In contrast EMC Data Domain is an underperforming backup appliance with limited scalability and availability. Which one should any business depend on when disaster strikes?”
Read the entire comparative analysis, including a summary of technical and economic advantages of ZDLRA over EMC Data Domain.
Oracle’s Engineered Systems Approach to Maximizing Database Protection by John Webster, Evaluator Group
“Oracle’s Recovery Appliance, co-engineered with Oracle Database and Oracle Recovery Manager, offers IT administrators a single, automated, Oracle-optimized and recovery-focused environment with sub-second RPO for data protection infrastructure and support. Its scale-out architecture puts it in a different class of backup appliance by enabling Oracle DBAs and application administrators to expand data protection capabilities continuously without adding stand-alone controllers that create islands of backup data and make backup and recovery more complex and time consuming. As one user has reported, an investment in the Recovery Appliance may actually cost less than it would have to add to their existing general purpose backup appliances while achieving 200X improvement in backup performance.”

With the latest release of Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c,enhancements have been made to the REST API that now facilitate the administration as well as the operational use of features in the Cloud Pack for Oracle database that enable customers to now fully automate the administration of assets. It also facilitates the selfservice model for private cloud, enabling the customer to fully automate the actual request and governors of database needs by a given Line of Business. (LOBs). Through the use of the REST API, the customer can streamline the process of delivering critically needed databases to the LOBs at a fraction of the current Operational Expenses (OPEX) cost.
The "Enterprise Manager - Database as a Service - REST API Cookbook" is intended to provide direction and requirements for the execution of a Database as a Service (DBaaS) specific to the use of the REST API provided with the Cloud Pack for Oracle Database and should be reviewed/executed in a specific customer’s environment for accuracy. This document is intended to provide an operational best practices reference only, using calls that will facilitate the administration and execute of the DBaaS features.
