Oracle Again in Gartner Leaders Quadrant for 2014 BI and Analytic Platforms

Gartner issued the 2014 BI Platforms and Analytic Platforms Magic Quadrant placing Oracle in the Leaders quadrant again.

The Good News

The key aspects for Oracle BI partners is that Gartners sees acceleration in the trend “from BI systems used primarily for measurement and reporting to those that also support analysis, prediction, forecasting and optimization”: which is clearly good for us since all these capabilities can be deployed by Oracle partners with OBI Foundation Suite, Oracle Advanced Analytics and Real-Time Decisions.

Also, “the race is on to fill the gap in governed data discovery.” Endeca Information Discovery 3.1, and its’ integration to Oracle BI, addresses this Self-service requirement better than any of the competition – but be aware that Gartner did not consider this at the time of this 2014 report, since version 3.1 was not out in time for inclusion.

Oracle is a Leader for the 8th consecutive year.  Top reasons cited include:

  • Broad product suite that works with many heterogeneous data sources for large-scale, multi-business-unit and multi-geography deployments
  • Integration with Oracle apps and technology, and with Oracle Hyperion EPM
  • Prebuilt analytic applications – horizontal Oracle BI Applications and the many industry analytic applications built on Oracle BI
  • Among the largest deployments in terms of numbers of users and data sizes
  • 69% of Oracle BI customers consider it their enterprise BI standard
  • Large, global network of partners

Gartner: Magic Quadrant for Corporate Performance Management Suites, 2012

Hyperion clearly leads the pack again in Gartner’s analysis of the CPM / EPM market, saying; “Oracle is a Leader in CPM suites, with one of the most widely distributed solutions in the market. Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management is recognized by CFOs worldwide. The vendor has a well-established partner channel, with both large and smaller CPM SI specialists. Hyperion skills are also plentiful among the independent consultant community, given the well-established products. “

“Oracle continues to innovate, bringing incremental improvements across the portfolio as well as new financial close management, disclosure management and predictive planning additions. Furthermore, Oracle has improved integration of Hyperion with the Oracle BI platform, and has improved planning performance, enabling Hyperion Planning to use Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine.”

Oracle BI is #1 on "Ability to Execute" in Gartner BI Platforms 2012

In February 2012, Gartner published the Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence Platforms (by John Hagerty, Rita Sallam and James Richardson of Gartner).

Oracle is in the highest position on "Ability to Execute" of all 21 vendors in the Magic Quadrant evaluated for this report.  "Ability to Execute", according to Gartner, "is a function of a vendor's score of five measures that Gartner believes customers care about most in vendor selection. It does not equate to revenue or market share; it is highly influenced by customer responses to the BI Platforms Magic Quadrant survey."

Gartner's view is that "the market for BI platforms will remain one of the fastest growing software markets, despite sluggish economic growth in some regions. Organizations continue to turn to BI as a vital tool for smarter, more agile and efficient business. According to Gartner's annual survey of CIO technology priorities, BI and analytics has once again been named the top priority for 2012, a position it has held in three of the last five years.

And they say, “Oracle is deployed most broadly (in respect of global deployment) of any vendor in this Magic Quadrant, with average user populations nearing 3,000 and data volumes of more than 5 TB, and it is considered the BI standard for nearly 70% of firms surveyed.”

  • Use this Magic Quadrant to demonstrate Oracle's leadership in the Business Intelligence space.  As always, please read this report in its entirety before presenting to a customer or prospect to ensure that this works for your particular situation.
