New in May 2016 Data Visualisation Desktop

Oracle’s Data Visualization portfolio expands further with the availability of Data Visualization on the desktop (“DVD”), making it easier and even more convenient for anyone to analyze any data, anytime, anywhere.

Start now - Download DVD now from OTN (522Mb) and install to start working with your data in as little as 15 minutes.

Get an easy-to-use desktop capability that is part of a complete visual analytics solution to meet all your needs, from individuals to the entire organization, for IT and the business.

Grow as you go by using DV in the cloud (DVCS) or on the desktop (DVD), or both – whatever best suits your needs now, and in the future.

A key element in Oracle’s analytics strategy, Data Visualization Desktop (DVD) is a standalone capability that provides rich, consumer-style analytics, including intelligent data visualization, self-service data discovery, visual storytelling, and predictive analysis, as well as out-of-the-box access to numerous data sources and built-in data preparation.  Highlights and benefits include:

Easy, Engaging Visual Analytics: Oracle Data Visualization (DV) blends drag-and-drop simplicity with powerful analytics, making it fun and easy for anyone to blend, visualize, and gain new insight from their data.  DVD makes visual analytics even more accessible through a quick download and install, allowing anyone to have a local best-in-class visual analytics capability that includes new visualizations, free form layouts, custom coloring and highlighting, and more.  See here the new features video.

Anytime, Anywhere:  DVD complements DVCS, BICS, and BI 12c, making the same rich experience and technology available for personal use on the desktop.  DVD is ideal for organizations that are still sorting out their cloud strategy, offering easy access to visual analytics that creates a natural bridge between premises and cloud.  Equally, it offers cloud customers a simple solution for local analytics, enabling people to work anywhere they need to.

Push-Button Data Management:  Point-and-click data blending allows users to blend data from a variety of sources – Oracle and other SaaS applications, on-premises systems, external sources and personal files, including:  OTBI/E, Oracle database, Spark, SQL Server, MySQL, DB2, Teradata, Redshift, Hive, Impala, MongoDB, SybaseIQ, and Salesforce.  DVD also offers integrated data preparation capabilities, enabling anyone to quickly clean and enhance data as it is loaded, as well as export to CSV files.

Predictive Analytics:  Analytics has progressed from providing oversight to offering insight, and now to enabling foresight.   Oracle Data Visualization supports that progression, delivering embedded predictive capabilities that enable anyone to see trend lines and other visuals with a click, and extend their analysis using a free R download.

“Buy 1 Get 1 Free”:  DVD is packaged at no extra cost with DVCS and BICS, so customers who subscribe to those services receive a matching number of DVD licenses at no extra charge.  On premises, customers license Oracle Data Visualisation for $1250 per named user (minimum lowered to 1), and receive both DV for OBI12c and DVD; when OBI12c and DV are licensed by processor, customers get 80 licenses of DVD per processor, again at no extra charge.

See and Try Data Visualisation for Big Data

By now you have probably already looked at how you can See and Try Oracle Data Visualisation to Re-Boot your Business, and maybe you are thinking how can you do this for your clients who have complex problems with large amounts of data in many different varieties of formats, probably with lots of text and documents (email, call-centre notes, asset maintenance logs, click streams, twitter, facebook…).

Maybe these clients have already started with Hadoop, but would like to be more productive in their “Data Science” and need to show their business executives some visual stories about the “big data” and how this can create business value.

To start with you can still use Oracle Data Visualisation to access data in Hadoop – for instance see this video demonstration @ OBI 12.2.1 : Visual Analyzer on Big Data. Here the information being used is joining database sets with structured data on Hadoop.

For un-structured, messy data, text information, and where the number of data-sets is large and being acquired so fast that your teams are finding it hard to define structures and prioritise where to start… then you need Oracle Big Data Discovery (BDD) to pre-analyse, mash-up, clean-up, and visualize the many different data sets together – and then to share your evolving insights and analysis with business analysts who can see the value and prioritise further work.

  1. For example I suggest you start with Getting Started with Oracle Big Data Discovery – Module 2: Process Overview (maybe even skip to 2.30 minutes into this video …).
  2. Then review the whole Oracle Big Data Discovery Playlists,
  3. And to download your own VM image with Hadoop, Oracle DB12c and BDD 1.1.1 try Download VM Oracle Big Data Lite 4.2.1 Including Big Data Discovery
  4. And then check back to Partners’ Get-Started-Kit with Oracle Big Data and Analytics and more articles at big and advanced.

For partners, we are running a series of 2-day technical training workshops on Big Data Discovery in EMEA (e.g. in UK), so look out to join these in your or nearby countries.

Hopefully this will get you more productive in your Big Data Science practices and help you visualize a greater variety of solutions and business value for your clients: or even just to make Hadoop a lot easier for your consultants to exploit.

Test Drives for BDD and BICS

We have updated the Test Drive kits for partners to run their own marketing events for their clients covering either BI Cloud Service and Visual Analyzer, or Big Data Discovery.

If the “Test Drive” idea is new to you, we have created for our specialised partners, the ability to run Test Drive Workshops for your customers. For example, a challenge you may be facing is how to easily show the business value of analytics to a set of customers.  We find the key to achieve this is to show best in class business analytic examples specific to a business person's role and needs - e.g. "HR analytics" for HR professionals, "Self-service Visual Analysis” for any business person, or “Big Data Discovery” for business analysts and data scientists.

These Test Drive Workshops are carefully scripted to allow a customer business person (usually not IT) to navigate for themselves around a series of dashboards and analysis targeted to show how analytics can help their business and drive ROI.

Oracle hosts the demo system for test drives, except for those that use BICS (where a partner needs to use their own BICS pod subscription). To access these, you need to gain access to the Emea Analytics Partner shared folder. If you do not already have access granted (e.g. the links below do not work), then send to Mike.Hallett@Oracle.com your Oracle.com logon-ID, and I will add you.

Partners can download these kits and guides for test drives such as:

We ourselves at Oracle are running these test drives for our customers, and you may wish to invite your clients to attend these too, for example we have these in the near future in the UK:

Updated BI Applications v11 Test Drive Scripts

We have hosted the BI-Apps v11 Test Drive onto an Exalytics box, and have updated the Test Drive workshop manuals for the Finance, HR & Procurement Modules.

If the “Test Drive” idea is new to you, we have created for our specialised partners, the ability to run Test Drive Workshops for your customers. For example, a challenge you may be facing is how to easily show the business value of BI to a set of customers.  We find the key to achieve this is to show best in class business analytic examples specific to a business person's role and needs - e.g. "HR analytics" for HR professionals, "Spend Analytics" for procurement professionals, and so on.

These Test Drive Workshops are carefully scripted to allow a customer business person (usually not IT) to navigate for themselves around a series of dashboards and analysis targeted to show how BI can help their business and drive ROI.

Oracle hosts the demo system for this, and partners can book this facility and download the whole kit. We have different types of Test Drive such as:

For the latest BI-Apps 11g scripts, and the Endeca test drive, you need to gain access to the Emea Analytics Partner shared folder. If you do not already have access granted (e.g. the link above does not work), then send to Mike.Hallett@Oracle.com your Oracle.com logon-ID, and I will add you.

      BICS Demonstration Environments

Partners can now access BICS (OBI Business Intelligence Cloud Service) demo environments on the Oracle hosted “GSE” (Global Sales Engineering) https://demo.oracle.com.

However, prior to making a request, a partner must register with GSE for access to the demo systems as previously explained here at OBI Foundation Demonstration Systems for Partners.

In summary, OPN Member Partners can Learn more and Apply for Access to GSE ( ... and follow the link CLICK HERE for On Premise Demonstration Environments ), and once approved, can access the link to book and run “On Premise” OBI and BICS demos @ https://demo.oracle.com.

As your partner business with BICS grows, I would recommend you will need to rent your own BICS “pod” on the Oracle Cloud, which you can then persist any demonstration, trial and POC materials you need for working with your clients, and to ensure you always have access to the very latest version of OBI on BICS. For OPN Member Partners, we are currently offering an attractive promotional rate for partners to purchase their own BICS pod for Demo purposes: for more information, contact me at Mike.Hallett@Oracle.com.
