Big Data Discovery News from Oracle OpenWorld 2014

Thomas Kurian, Oracle’s executive vice president of product development, began his keynote speech at Oracle OpenWorld 2014 by discussing three major trends in business and culture—big data, mobility, and the cloud. He then detailed and demoed new products and services from Oracle that enhance customers’ ability to make use of all three.

Kurian introduced a new set of tools called Oracle Big Data Discovery, which allows database managers and engineers to work more effectively with Hadoop, as “the visual face of Hadoop”. Oracle Big Data Discovery lets users profile, explore, and analyze Hadoop data, and do prediction and correlation. “With Oracle Big Data Discovery, you will be able to explore and find patterns and problems with your data,” Kurian said. Find out what Information Week reported about this Hadoop Data Exploration Tool.

Oracle Big Data Discovery combined with Oracle Big Data SQL, a recently introduced toolset for working with data across relational and big data systems using Structured Query Language, represent a powerful combination of technologies for supporting a truly effective big data strategy.

Kurian also referenced several other technology developments by Oracle:

If you did not manage to visit Oracle OpenWorld 2014, then you can still find out about all of this news, in discussion with our Analytics development and strategy team here in Europe at the Oracle Business Analytics EMEA Partner Community Forum on 21st October to 24th October, 2014 in Utrecht, Netherlands.

Oracle Business Intelligence Cloud Service Available

As part of our overall strategy for Comprehensive Analytics in the Cloud, the Oracle Business Intelligence Cloud Service (BICS) is now available: read the essentials in this BICS eBook and view this 3-minute video introducing BICS key concepts, features, and benefits. And here is the Press Release.

  • The price of this service to your clients starts at $3,500 per month for 10 users (including the necessary Database service, and before any discounts).  Additional BICS users are $250 per month each.

Also see this great library of online “How to use” Oracle Business Intelligence Cloud Service Videos and Tutorials. And you may like to see what Mark Rittman has to say in his blog @ Introduction to Oracle BI Cloud Service.

Partners may find that some of their client Business users, faced with overwhelming amounts of data and shorter decision cycles, have taken BI into their own hands. These Business users are using cloud technologies with user oriented tools and less reliance on IT to create their own “shadow” BI projects.

Oracle BICS will help LOB Business users remain agile while adhering to corporate strategy and help IT in maintaining security and compliance. Cloud technology will redefine the role of Partners and IT; with BICS strengthening the LOB/IT partnership. Partners can download our summary sales guide, plus two self-playing BICS “demo viewletsfrom the BI-partner-community shared portal (for access to this portal, email Mike.Hallett@Oracle.com with your company email id and OPN membership status).

To exploit your partnering opportunity, start at the Oracle Cloud Marketplace Partner Portal, and also review the Oracle Cloud Computing Programs & Specializations FAQ for Partners. In the OPN Knowledge Zone there’s a video in the “What’s New” section: Cloud Resell and Referral program which you can review as well to become familiar with how these programs work.

To resell BICS you must:

a)     Be BICS Specialized

b)     Develop and obtain approval for your BICS Fixed Scope Implementation template

c)     Sign the Partner Contract agreements:

  • FUDA (ORACLE PARTNERNETWORK FULL USE DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT), once,
  • CSDA (CLOUD SERVICES DISTRIBUTION ADDENDUM ), once,
  • OCSA (ORACLE CLOUD SERVICES AGREEMENT: between Oracle and each customer).

Until you achieve your Business Intelligence Cloud Service specialization, we encourage you to refer sales leads to Oracle and receive compensation, as explained in the FAQ

The material to prepare for and take the partner specialization exam will be posted soon at the OPN BI Specialization page. For partners that are already specialized in Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (on-premises software) you will need to have a minimum of two individuals meet the new “BICS specialist” role:

For partners that aren’t yet specialized in Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (on-premises software), you need to complete the OBI specialization set plus the new BICS criteria.

If you have a client to whom you want to propose BICS, please contact either Mike.Hallett@Oracle.com or Gherardo.Infunti@oracle.com for any help you may need.

PBCS Hyperion Planning in the Cloud Implementation Workshop

Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service (PBCS) opens up opportunities for organizations of all sizes to streamline planning and forecasting, accelerate deployment, and reduce costs.

This one-day in-person workshop is delivered by Oracle Development (free to OPN member partners), and will cover the handoff from selling-to-implementing of PBCS. Although the basic building blocks are the same as with on-premises Planning, there is a paradigm shift when it comes to selling and implementing a Cloud Service solution. The value proposition behind Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service is all about the deployment model, how it’s sold and how it gets implemented – simplicity, fast adoption and flexible deployment, without sacrificing first-class functionality.

To be successful, the entire cycle from sales to implementation should consistently support this value proposition to your clients. This training event is for OPN member partners whose business roles involve presales, implementation consulting, and support. This workshop briefly reviews the sales approach, as background, with emphasis on partner sales support. The main objective is to learn what is needed to successfully implement Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service once the sales hand off is made – how to leverage your current Hyperion Planning knowledge and use the features designed specifically to build out a Cloud Service solution.

This Workshop is being offered at three locations for partners from all countries in EMEA:

  • June 24, 2014: Kista, Sweden
  • June 26, 2014: Reading, United Kingdom
  • June 29-30, 2014 (split days): Dubaï, United Arab Emirates

“We’re excited to be the first to offer customers this service that combines the power of Oracle’s enterprise planning in the Cloud solution with all the services customers need included for one low monthly fee,” said Paul Johnston, General Manager of Qubix. “Yes, there are other cloud offerings, but these typically don't include the implementation services, the training, ongoing support and consulting customers need, so we’ve re-imagined how service should be delivered in the Cloud world and simplified everything.” he went on to add that the new Qubix service includes:

A subscription to the Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Services

A choice of Express, Professional or Enterprise implementation packages

Training to maximize user engagement and productivity

On-going Support and managed services

Qubix packaged subscriptions start at £12 per user per day for an entry-level budgeting, planning and forecasting solution, increasing to £29 per user per day for an enterprise-grade solution.

Using this cloud based service; companies can reduce costs and complexity while accelerating the speed of delivery without compromising any features or capabilities.

Neil Sellers, Director of Qubix, added, “We want to make planning, budgeting and forecasting simple and affordable for all businesses, no matter what their size or complexity.”

By tapping into the benefits of the Cloud, businesses no longer need to purchase and set up hardware and software, which greatly accelerates the deployment time and significantly reduces costs. Qubix estimates that the total cost of ownership savings for a typical customer will be between 30% - 40% over a three year period.

The new service means businesses can take advantage of all the benefits of Cloud SaaS, providing an enterprise-wide, multidimensional planning, reporting and analysis solution, without compromise. This has been proven, in some instances, to reduce planning and budgeting cycle times by up to 90%, thus promoting faster & better business decisions.

For more details, including pricing please visit: http://www.qubix.com/qubix-enterprise-cloud-planning
