SaaS or Rental: What is the difference ?

In these days of cloud computing there is much talk of flexible commercial models to match the potential from more flexible technology architectures.  Software as a Service (SaaS), Rental or Managed Services are among the many labels variously applied to potential commercial models offered to customers: so how can you as an Oracle BI / EPM Partner best respond when your client asks for this kind of approach ?

In many cases when I get into this conversation, I find most customers are very happy when I explain they can rent Oracle software, for example, for one year.  It is really simple.

“Big data”, without deep analytics, is just “data”. Data doesn’t become useful, actionable information until data analysis and interpretation are performed. Advanced Analytics is needed to extract meaning from data, creating valuable information that helps companies and organizations to:

  • Better understand customers, their behaviour and their needs

  • Perform a wide range of basic and statistical analyses

  • Build predictive models

  • Detect anomalies, potential fraud and rare events

  • Develop greater insight and understanding

Oracle's Advanced Analytics tools transform the Oracle Database into a powerful data mining, predictive analytics, statistics and advanced analytics platform. The Oracle Advanced Analytics Option, which bundles both Oracle Data Mining and Oracle R Enterprise together, enables companies to bring the algorithms to the data as compared to the traditional approach of extracting data to specialized and expensive dedicated statistical/data mining servers.

With the Oracle Advanced Analytics Option, data movement is eliminated, or dramatically reduced, while analytical and compute intensive operations are performed within the database where the data resides; significantly improving performance and reducing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of analytics.

The Oracle Advanced Analytics Option integrates a comprehensive array of predictive analytics, data mining, text mining, basic and advanced statistical functions and analytics into the database.

  1. Oracle Data Mining provides powerful machine learning techniques that run as SQL functions for in-database data preparation, model build and model deployment.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

This 2-day Hands on Training for Oracle Data Mining (ODM) and Oracle R Enterprise (ORE) is designed for Oracle Partners’ Consultants to gain an overview of ODM, ODM value proposition(s), competitive advantages and differentiators, and example customer use cases, as well as some proficiency in using these software tools.

During this training course, you will learn:

  • Data Mining, Predictive Analytics and Advanced Analytics Overview

  • How to use the SQL Developer/Oracle Data Miner GUI to mine demo data

  • Ideas for integration of ODM results into OBIEE dashboards and Applications

  • Basic concepts and most common Oracle R Enterprise command, functionality and demo scripts

  • We will also introduce you to Oracle RTD (Real Time Decisions) to position this compared to ODM and ORE.

Training Goals:

  • Students should understand the basics of Oracle Data Mining and will be able to use the Oracle Data Miner GUI

  • Students should become familiar with Oracle R Enterprise and do simple "Hello world" examples

  • Students will understand resources to self-study and learn more after this course.

PREPARATION & PREREQUISITES:

Students must come to the class with their own laptops with the following:

  • Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.1+, including Sample Examples data installed
  • SQL Developer 3.1 with Oracle Data Mining Extension installed - download 3.1 EA3
  • Oracle R Enterprise installed + open source R

Be Recognised: Publish your Partner BI&EPM Customer References

What sells? Good products and services are important, but good relationships and customer references open doors and close deals.

Oracle provides funding and resources to help eligible partners and their customers to turn success stories into references. The Oracle Partner / Customer Reference Program showcases partners’ successes with their customers through publishing references. The reference can be a partner snapshot, magazine article, customer forum, video or podcast - depending on the eligibility and opportunity.

To be considered for this Oracle References program, you need to
submit a reference request online.

Customers can Find Specialised Partners in New Search

Customers often start their search for a Partner to help them to implement their BI & EPM project at www.Oracle.com

Try the new Explore Specialised Partners tab, to make sure your entry is maximising customer leads to your business.

This allows clients to search by Specialisation and Country, as well as a new facility to sort by "Recomendations".  So get your existing customers to go here to click on the Recomend tab for you.

Partners Earn more Margin by Registering BI & EPM deals

Specialist Oracle partners are earning more margin by registering their BI & EPM deals on the OPS (Oracle Partner Store) system. This comes from resale protection, referral and rebate margins: the article below is just a summary reminder of how you can take advantage of these.

3% Rebates

The “OPN Incentive Program” offers to authorized Oracle resellers, who are transacting through participating authorized Oracle value added distributors (VADs), a 3% rebate on deals “Registered” to the “Broad Customer Base” (outside of the Oracle 2000 List).

In summary, to benefit from a rebate, partners must:

  • Register their opportunities under the Oracle Open Market Model (OMM),

  • Sell into the “Broad Customer Base”,

  • Include Oracle Premier Support with the Oracle product order,

  • Place their order through an authorized Oracle VAD.

5% Referral

Partners who wish to pass a referral opportunity to Oracle may do so using an OMM Registration in the Oracle Global PRM application, and can earn 5% (see table below and policies) on those accepted by Oracle.


Resale Initiative

The Resale Initiative is open to all eligible OPN members to register (here) a net-new opportunity for which the partner has current resale rights under a valid Oracle distribution agreement. You as the resell partner then earn your normal margin based on your resell price and the partner discount from your Oracle distribution agreement. Additionally you are eligible for the 3% Rebate if your order meets those criteria, and you are compensated should the customer choose to purchase direct from Oracle.

Oracle will always respect the customer's purchasing choice and the customer will always be the final arbiter of which company sells or implements the Oracle based solution. Oracle does not guarantee that the customer will purchase from the registered and accepted partner. However, where Oracle closes a deal for hardware, programs and/or services that was registered through OMM and accepted under the Resale Initiative, the registered partner will qualify for a resale fee from Oracle that is 10% of the value of the opportunity.

In all regions, registration of an opportunity for resale will be valid for 365 days from date of acceptance by Oracle. However, partners may request an extension to these terms.
