Questions Anyone?

I've been working with WebCenter Content for almost 9 years now and have a ton of topics rolling around my head that I'm sure would make excellent blog post once I find the time to write them up.

Does anyone have any questions they would like answered? Like why does WCC do ...? How does this feature work? I can't seem to get this working?

Post your question to the comments and if it is something on my list of topics I had planned on creating a blog post about I will move it to the top of the list.

does RIDC let us create folders and sub-folders under 'Framework Folders'? Any documentation somewhere?

How can I integrate UCM with OBIEE in the easiest manner? For example, have an OBIEE dashboard with a UCM content view?

Posted by guest on November 08, 2012 at 03:43 PM CST #

Yes, you can. See the Services Reference Guide. It has a section on the Folder services.

I don't know much about OBIEE, but does the "OBIEE dashboard" you mention allow you to specify a URL as a source of information? Could you use a UCM search to display information on the dashboard?

Posted by Kevin Smith on November 13, 2012 at 07:06 AM CST #

I took a quick look at the OBIEE Users Guide and found "Embedded Content"

That sounds like it would allow you to embed a UCM search or content into a OBIEE dashboard.

What type of content do you want to embed? A list of documents from a search? A content item?

Hi, I've spent quite a few hours searching for migration guidelines from OCDB to WebCenter Content 11g. But couldn't find any...
Please, tell me is it available to migrate all content with metadata (categories, attributes)?
I didn't find a way to attach category to document in WCC. So is it possible somehow to map OCDB categories and attributes to alike metadata structures in WebCenter Content 11g or UCM?

I have not worked with Content DB before. I will check with one of our other consultants who has and post what I find.

Could you please help me out by answering the below question...? please...
How to use datacontrols in a ssxa(site studio fro external application) application????

Posted by guest on December 15, 2012 at 05:51 AM CST #

You are going to have to give me a little more details. What do you mean by data controls? Can you give me an example?

Posted by Kevin Smith on December 15, 2012 at 07:04 AM CST #

i mean that we use datacontrols in adf by drag and drop the datacontrols onto a jspx page.. so i did the same way in ssxa application but its displaying it in different manner... i.e. it automatically created html tags for a table representation and it displays the table as a html table not the adf table format in UI.... Actaully,my doubt is i did some applications using ADF and developed some UI and implemented some logic by writing few managed beans... so i want to do the same with SSXA Application... Its like my ssxa application needs to communicate with UCM Server for getting the site assets(templates, images, docs, videos, flash objects) and with database(tables).... Could u pls help me??? Thankyou... :)

Posted by guest on December 17, 2012 at 12:56 AM CST #

we drag drop datacontrols in adf,in same way how can we achieve the same adf functionality in a ssxa application.... I want to use all adf functionality such as ADF+EJB and ADF+BC in a ssxa application also... How can i accomplish this....Pls help me...Thanking you... :)

Hi, in the Trace Log file, I usually found "begin tran - soft" for systemdatabase entries. However, I once found "begin tran - hard" when executing UPDATE_DOCINFO. It only happened once or twice and I could reproduced it. What are the differences of the transaction types and what impact they have on performance?

Posted by guest on December 19, 2012 at 09:01 AM CST #

If you see "begin - tran hard" then you should also see an update and insert into the counters table. For "hard" transactions WCC uses the counters table to create a lock before continuing with the database transaction. For "soft" transactions is just uses the normal database transaction synchronization. So, I would expect "hard" transactions to have a performance penalty especially in heavily used systems, since those transactions would have to single-thread through the lock on the counters table. I would have expected the type of transaction to be fixed based on the service being called.

In a clustered environment, how is it possible that a search may return different results depending on which node serviced the request? Is there a way to force all nodes to return the same result?

Posted by guest on January 23, 2013 at 04:17 PM CST #

It may be a search cache issue. If there has been a new doc checked in on one node and the second node still has the old search results in its cache you could get incorrect results. You would have to turn off the search cache (UseSearchCache=falase) to have it go to the database all the time. There are definitely performance impacts to doing this. If you want to see what is happening you can turn on the searchquery and searchcache trace sections.

Hi Kevin,

Please help me to achieve the following in the Content Server 11g :-

1) Any user will be restricted to checkin only .PDF & .DOC files
2) File size should not more than 50 MB.

Any help on these will be appreciated.

Posted by prashant on April 11, 2013 at 04:47 AM CDT #

You are going to have to write a check in filter. This is java code that will be executed each time a user checks in a file. You can check the file size and extension. If it does not meet your requirements then the check in can be rejected.

You can use this component as a sample.

Dumping out the binder to the trace output will show you the binder variables to check the file extension and file size.

The How To components also has an example of a check in filter.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for immediate reply,
As per your suggestion i have made changes but i failed to achieve my requirement.

I humbly request you to create and upload the component for :-
1) Any user will be restricted to checkin only .PDF & .DOC files
2) File size should not more than 50 MB.

Posted by prashant on April 14, 2013 at 06:16 AM CDT #

You can download a sample component for validating the file before it is checked in. It checks for a maximum file size and an allowable list of extensions. Both checks are configurable using configuration parameters.

Posted by Kevin Smith on April 16, 2013 at 11:59 AM CDT #

Hi Kevin,

I have downloaded CheckinValidation Component.

I Works Fine.Only Need to change in CheckinValidation.hda file
Instead of DumpBinder.CheckinFilter it is CheckinValidation.CheckinFilter

Your small mistake made me learn how to create custom component.

Many thanks to you.

Can We change the location of the folder Vault & Weblayout other than our local machine?
I want to store above 2 folders on Intranet location. Is it Possible?

Posted by prashant on September 20, 2013 at 06:13 AM CDT #

What do you mean by an intranet location?

The vault and weblayout can reside on a remote file system accessible from the WebCenter Content (WCC) server. You can change the default location of the vault and weblayout by updating the settings in the intradoc, cfg file.

This is a requirement if you want to run WCC in a cluster. This is normally done during the initial configuration of WCC. If you want to do it after the initial configuration you will have to move the files from the current local directories to the new remote directories.

Be aware that there are some requirements for the remote file systems for WCC to function properly and perform acceptably that have to be meet. Search for WCC cluster on My Oracle Support and you should fine the right support note with the details.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks to your wonderful blog on Webcenter touching some key points.

I loved your post "A Generic RIDC Test Program" as it gave me everything to setup and run a RIDC program successfully.

I have couple of questions.

1) The output of the RIDC is redirect to stdout(screen) and is not a structured(or should I say formatted to avoid annoying you :) ). I am asking this question as I would like to use some information from the output to be used for another RIDC program. So how can I format/strucure the output.

2) I would like to know whether there is an idc service that can be used to calculate checksum on the documents loaded onto WCC repository. If there is, do you have any sample code that can help me in acheiving this. Please note that I am not a java/ajax programmer so will struggle to code this myself. Hence the help request.

Appreciate your help.
