Update to EBS Electronic Technical Reference Manual (eTRM)

Rekha Ayothi
Product Management

The Oracle E-Business Suite Electronic Technical Reference Manual (eTRM) is a repository of Oracle E-Business Suite database object definitions and their dependency information.

The eTRM contains a detailed description of database tables, views, and packages for each of the EBS products. Apart from database design documents, you can find primary and foreign key relationships between database objects in eTRM.

The eTRM does not include EBS database object changes for each of the RUPs or minor releases. If you need to review the differences in EBS database objects between releases you can use the EBS Data Model Comparison Reports.

What has Recently Changed?

The eTRM was available as an online utility from My Oracle Support. As of this update, eTRM is only available via offline access. You can now download and stage the contents of the eTRM locally.  Then you can view the local contents as a set of static pages.

The downloadable eTRM is available for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 and 12.1 only. It does not include older releases EBS releases such as 12.0 and 11i.

How do I Download eTRM?

The following is a summary of the steps required to download and stage eTRM on a local machine.

  1. Open the URL https://etrm.oracle.com in browser.
  2. Enter your My Oracle Support credentials to login.
  3. My Oracle Support Document 2736939.1 - Oracle E-Business Suite Electronic Technical Reference Manual (eTRM), Release 12.1 and 12.2 will be displayed.Oracle Electronic Technical Reference Manual (MOS Note: 2736939.1)
  4. Follow the instructions in Section 2 Downloading the eTRM to download and unzip eTRM patches to your local machine.
  5. Open the index.html file in your browser to access eTRM from local machine.

Once downloaded and staged, you can access the eTRM anytime from your staged location.

Thanks for the info. I noticed too on ETRM. Do you have any idea how to get the database tables and columns details for older versions

    Hi,
Have you tried downloading the eTRMs and unzipping them?
I have tried, but unfortunately I am not able to unzip file nr. 2 of 6.
Should this be done on unix/linux, or can it be installed on a windows PC?

    Hi Mark,

Currently, you can download eTRM for EBS R12.2 and R12.1. It is not available for older releases of EBS.

EBS 11i and 12.0 are in Sustaining Support and customers still on these older release versions are recommended to upgrade to latest EBS releases.

    Thanks,
    Rekha

    Hi Roy,

You can download and unzip the 6 zip files which are part of the patch, into any machine. It could be Unix/Linux or Windows machine.

You can also host the eTRM within your organization in a common machine/ server - this way it need not be downloaded several times within your organization by individuals.

If you are facing issues with certain zip files, try to re-download them before unzipping it. If issue persists, please file a Service Request with My Oracle Support, one of our Support Engineers will assist you.

    Thanks,
    Rekha

I understand that 11i and 12.0 are in Sustaining Support, but how are the customers who are still using these versions supposed to get the eTRMs for those versions? Sustaining Support is not total desupport; those customers, as well as internal Support, still need access to those eTRMs.

Our DEV team asked me to request that more advance notice be given before removing important resources like this. The site access was taken down before the notice.
To make matters worse, I have downloaded the etrm patches but like others I am unable to unzip file 2 and 3 without errors. Latter files may have issues too. I opened SR 3-25635623871 yesterday after lots testing but no progress so far.
We'd appreciate your attention so we can get access again. Thanks!

The process to download and unzip the eTRM files was problematic and took many hours. When I was finally able to access the downloaded eTRMs, I noticed the Search functionality is missing. Oracle made this change with ZERO advance notice. As a result, I was unable to access the TRMs for several days. Why oh why, Oracle, did you make this more difficult for your customers? Thanks a lot, Oracle. :-(

Search is essential, will this be included in near future versions?
  • Bill Zheng Monday, April 26, 2021

Sorry to say but it's just a shame that Oracle removed those static repositories. FOr sure not pro-customer behaviour.

    All,

I understand the concerns raised here. Let me try to answer your queries:

On Why this change? Why not host the static pages of eTRM?
The eTRM was built on a set of tools and technology that are no longer supported. To continue to provide the content to customers, we have exported the eTRM to a set of static HTML documents. The eTRM is delivered in a downloadable format as this is the best way for Oracle to continue to provide the content.

    Regarding Search option:
Search option is not available with the downloadable format of eTRM.

If you are facing issues with extraction of certain zip files, try to re-download them before unzipping it.
If issue persists, please file a Service Request with My Oracle Support, one of our Support Engineers will assist you. File the SR against Oracle Applications DBA product.

    Regards,
    Rekha
