Release Update Packs 12.0.5 for Financials and HRMS Now Available

Steven Chan
Senior Director

[July 2, 2008 Update: Removed references to specific numbers of issues fixed.]

This announcement isn't really directly-related to the E-Business Suite technology stack, but it can't hurt to highlight this news here since it affects so many of our readers.   Oracle Financials and Oracle Human Resources Management System (HRMS) have released two new product family Release Update Packs for E-Business Release 12.0.5.  These cumulative product family RUPs include error corrections, statutory/regulatory updates, and functionality enhancements that were made available after the initial release of Oracle E-Business Suites 12.0.

The naming convention for E-Business Suite Release 12 until now has been that a "Release Update Pack" comprises bug fixes for all product families.  These were called Consolidated Updates in Release 11i.

This is the first time I've seen the term "Release Update Pack" used to refer to fixes for a specific product family for Release 12.  You should be aware that these latest 12.0.5 RUPs don't include fixes for any other E-Business Suite application modules except Financials or HRMS.  Regardless of what they're called, R12 sysadmins can now download two new patchsets:

Oracle Financials Release Update Pack 12.0.5

This patch can be downloaded as Patch 6836355, and its contents are documented in Oracle Financials Software Updates, Release Update Pack 6 (Metalink Note 565898.1).

Oracle HRMS Release Update Pack 12.0.5

This patch can be downloaded as Patch 6610000, and its contents are documented in Oracle HRMS Software Updates, Release Update Pack 5 (Metalink Note 565977.1).

"This is the first time I've seen the term "Release Update Pack""

Just curious - you're not exactly at the bottom of the pyramid - who DOES come up with all this?

    Steven,

So now we are combining Release 11i and Release 12 terminology (Release Update Packs and Family Packs). Talk about obfuscation... :-)

Will there be a full 12.0.5 RUP or is the target still 12.1?

    Thanks.

John,There are no current plans for a 'full' 12.0.5 RUP (i.e. one that meets the original Release 12 definition of a Release Update Pack).  If you want updates for all Release 12.0.4 products, including all techstack components, then Release 12.1 is the release to await.Regards,Steven

Jay,That's funny.  No, I'm not at the bottom of the pyramid.  If that's the metaphor, then one might find it useful to think in terms of multiple pyramids, each with their own areas of coverage.I lead the technical team in Development that handles E-Business Suite techstack certifications.  There's a separate program management group that oversees each Release 12.x release. Part of that team's responsibility is to choose how to communicate the news about a particular release. Regards,Steven

since Hrms 11i and R12 are not that much different, will the 2300 fixes of Hrms be available too for 11i?

  • Steven Chan Tuesday, May 20, 2008

Thierry,As far as I'm aware, there are no plans to backport Release 12.0.5 HRMS fixes to the 11i codeline.  However, I don't generally have a lot of visibility into functional teams' plans for these types of things, so you may wish to log a formal Service Request against HRMS via Metalink to get an official confirmation of that.Regards,Steven
