Oracle Unified Directory Certified with EBS 12.2

Steven Chan
Senior Director

Oracle Unified Directory 11gR2 Patchset 3 ( is now certified with E-Business Suite 12.2.  Oracle Unified Directory can be used when enabling single sign-on capabilities for the E-Business Suite via Oracle Access Manager 11gR2.

This certification also includes Directory Integration Platform 11gR1 Patchset 7 (, which is used to synchronize users between OUD and the E-Business Suite.

How does this relate to Oracle Internet Directory?

EBS 12.2 users now have the option of using either Oracle Internet Directory or Oracle Unified Directory when enabling single sign-on in their environments.

Which one should I use?

From the perspective on an E-Business Suite end-user, both directories offer the same functionality, namely, end-users can log on to the E-Business Suite.  The choice really depends upon your user directory administrators.  You should use the one that meets your user administration requirements the best.

Here are the options.  If you're:

  • Running EBS 12.1, you can only use Oracle Internet Directory
  • Running EBS 12.2: you can use Oracle Internet Directory or Oracle Unified Directory

Do I need to switch from OID to OUD?

No.  You can continue to use Oracle Internet Directory with EBS 12.1 and 12.2.  There is no need to switch from Oracle Internet Directory to Oracle Unified Directory.

Can I eliminate both OID and OUD?

No.  When integrating E-Business Suite with Oracle Access Manager, EBS has hardcoded dependencies that require either OID or OUD.  You must have one of these two directories.

This article discusses OID but applies equally to OUD now.  The same technical dependencies exist for Oracle Unified Directory and Oracle Internet Directory when integrating the E-Business Suite with Oracle Access Manager.

Certified Platforms

Oracle Unified Directory is certified to run on any operating system for which Oracle WebLogic Server 11g is certified. For information on operating systems supported by Oracle WebLogic Server 11g and Oracle Unified Directory, refer to the 'Oracle Fusion Middleware on WebLogic Server - System Certification' in the Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.x) Certification Matrix.

Integration with Oracle Unified Directory involves components spanning several different suites of Oracle products. There are no restrictions on which platform any particular component may be installed so long as the platform is supported for that component.

    Hi Steven,

Interesting update! I wonder if Oracle Unified Directory has a tool like OIDDAS which offers password reset functionality.

Currently EBS customers are being pushed for Oracle Identity Manager which is another technology layer and further complexity.

As far as I know, it does not.

    Hello Steven,

Is there any plan to certify OID with R12.2.5.

    Currently certification shows only OUD.

    Hello Steven,

    Thanks for the reply.

The document you referred says, Oracle Internet Directory can be integrated with 12.2.2+

But, in the My Oracle Support certification matrix shows only Oracle Unified Directory as certified LDAP/Directory service for 12.2.5. This is why I am seeking the clarification.

    Hello, Shaiju,

Good catch! Our Certify database on My Oracle Support does not show Oracle Internet Directory certifications for EBS 12.2.5, even though they should. I am following up with my team to get this corrected.

In the meantime, I can reassure you that OID is certified with all EBS 12.2 patchsets, including 12.2.2, 12.2.3, 12.2.4, and 12.2.5.

Thanks, again, for pointing this out to us.

    Hi ,

Is there any way we can import the password from EBS 12.2.5 to OUD when we do integration ?

Passwords are synchronized when you perform the Oracle Access Manager & Oracle Internet Directory/Oracle Unified Directory with Oracle E-Business Suite .

Registration options are covered in Section 6.2 Choose the Registration Type, in Integrating Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 with Oracle Unified Directory 11gR2 (Doc ID 2003483.1).
