Discoverer Certified with E-Business Suite

Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer is an ad-hoc query, reporting, analysis, and Web-publishing tool that allows end-users to work directly with Oracle E-Business Suite OLTP data.

Discoverer 11g ( is now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release.  Discoverer is part of Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Release 1 Version, also known as FMW 11gR1 Patchset 6.  Certified E-Business Suite releases are:
  • EBS Release 11i + ATG RUP 7 and higher
  • EBS Release 12.0.6 and higher
  • EBS Release 12.1.1 and higher

Certified Platforms

Oracle Discoverer Release 11g R1 Patch Set 6 ( is certified to run on any operating system for which Oracle WebLogic Server 11g is certified. For platform details, see:

    Hi, Floyd,

    EBS 12.2 isn't released yet, so, yes, this announcement only covers EBS 11i, 12.0, and 12.1 today.

    When EBS 12.2 is released, it's safe to assume that the latest Discoverer version will be certified with it.

    Hello, Guest,

    Extended Support for Discoverer 10g ended in December 2011. All Discoverer 10g users should upgrade to 11g immediately, regardless of whether you're running EBS 11i, 12.0, or 12.1.

    It is safe to assume that future releases like EBS 12.2 will only be certified with Discoverer 11g.

    Could you tell me when premier support ends for this version of Discoverer? Is there a difference in support levels if Discoverer is used standalone or with EBS as a source? And is there an Oracle note on Support that I can refer to?

    As you can see from the Middleware document, Discoverer 11gR1 has Premier Support to June 2014, and Extended Support to June 2017.

    These patchsets are collections of bug fixes. They don't deliver any new functionality. You can review the README or the release notes to see whether there are any lists of bugs. If not, you can log a Service Request against the Discoverer product to have a specialist help you out with that.

    Hi Steven,

    From the Oracle Life Support Policy, I see that the Premier Support for Discoverer 11gR1(11.1.1.x) ends in June 2014. Does it cover all three products: Discoverer Administrator, Discoverer Desktop, and Discoverer Plus?

    Also, we are planning to upgrade from 10g (Desktop & Plus) to 11g (Plus). Is it beneficial to get 11g Desktop as well? What are the differences between 11g Desktop vs. Plus?

    Yes, all Discoverer components are covered by the Premier Support date that you noted above.

    I would recommend that you upgrade all of your older Discoverer components to the latest 11g level.

    I'm in E-Business Suite Development and don't have much visibility into Discoverer functionality. You can log a Service Request against the Discoverer team to get help with your question about the differences between releases.

    Thank you for your response. I have another question.

    From the Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.x) Certification Matrix, it says Discoverer Administrator and Discoverer Desktop 11g R1( is certified with Windows 7 32 bit.

    Does 11g R1( covers and all versions above? We want to make sure is certified with Windows 7 32 bit before we upgrade from to

    Yes, that would be my interpretation.

    I'm in EBS Development, so I can't speak for the Discoverer team. If you wish an authoritative answer, you should follow up with a formal Service Request against the Discoverer product itself.

    We are already at latest Discoverer with EBS. Considering desupport June 2014 of 11gR1 is there a future 11gR2 Discoverer on the horizon or is Oracle waving the magic wand to force customers to OBIEE.

    We are upgrading Discoverer 10g to and integrating it with EBS and with OAM for authentication.

    We installed Discoverer Administrator and Discoverer Desktop

    However, I cannot find any information on how to integrate Discoverer Administrator and Discoverer Desktop with OAM.

    Do they have a feature of integrating with OAM for authentication or do we have to keep using local EBS login?

    Integration with OAM depends upon the interception and redirection of middle-tier requests to OAM. Client/server tools generally bypass the middle-tier entirely and attempt to connect directly to the database.

    I don't believe that the two client/server Discoverer tools that you mentioned support OAM integration. You can get an authoritative verdict by logging a Service Request against Discoverer Support.

    Hi Steven,

    I appreciate you work in EBS Development, but just wanted to post an update for others.

    We use Discoverer 11g ( with an in-house developed Oracle Forms application, and have been trying to get a statement from Oracle for many months now on the future of Discoverer as the end of Premier Support for 11gR1 approaches next year, but so far all we have had is that a new Statement of Direction is "imminent"...and that was in late August!

    I personally can't believe that a product is coming so close to the end of Premier Support and we've have no Statement of Direction more recently than January 2009...

    I would also say that in that Statement of Direction it certainly lists some of the advantages of switching to OBIEE, but to me the Recommendations section at the end states that "Existing Discoverer customers can continue to use Discoverer with the assurance of Oracle‟s Lifetime Support Policy, as well as with the continued planned enhancements and integration with future releases of Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle BI EE." and that "Existing customers are strongly encouraged to upgrade to Oracle BI Discoverer 10gR2 and to migrate to web deployment to take advantage of the many new exciting and powerful enhancements in this version and to get the best support benefits available.".

    Anyway, despite no new Statement of Direction, I see there is a single statement buried in the document about extended Premier Support for FMW 11gR1 (Doc ID 1585582.1) that lists Discoverer 11gR1 as an exception with the comment "Customers are directed to move to Oracle Business Intelligence 11g", so I guess that's our answer.

    It would be useful if Oracle could have released that as a new Statement of Direction along with information on switching and also additional license requirements for that switch...

I have passed on your feedback to Discoverer Product Management but would encourage you to log Service Requests against Discoverer directly to ensure that your concerns are officially communicated.

    You may also wish to contact your Oracle account manager and ask him/her to escalate this to Discoverer Product Management.

    EBS users should evaluate whether OBIEE meets their requirements, but we do not expect a forced upgrade while EBS includes hard dependencies on Discoverer.

    We're still working out the language for a formal statement of support for Discoverer for EBS users. In the meantime, until that statement is published, it is reasonable to expect that for EBS users will continue to receive patches for critical Discoverer issues through the Extended Support periods of the respective EBS releases.

    Currently we are on Oracle BI Discoverer Viewer Version

    After migrating the discoverer EUL to new OS, are all existing report transferred to new version or we need redevelop the report.

    Changing server-based operating systems for either the E-Business Suite or wherever you're running your Discoverer Server instance will not affect any of your existing Discoverer workbooks.

    You should upgrade to Discoverer at your earliest convenience.

    We are running e-Business Suite 12.1.3 with Discoverer along with IE11 and Windows 7 64-bit on the desktop. Specific to Java on the desktop, we need to run Java 1.6.0_43 on our clients due to other critical application compatibility. This version of Java looks to be supported with e-Biz but I cannot tell if it is supported with Discoverer. If it is not supported, do you know of any known issues using this version of Java with Discoverer? We cannot upgrade to Java 1.7 at this time.

    Hello, Chuck,

    JRE 1.6.0_43 was released in March 2013. I don't recall hearing about any compatibility issues with Discoverer, but that seems a long time ago now. The chances are good that that combination is fine.

    Remember that I'm part of the E-Business Suite division, so if you need a definitive answer on compatibility between Discoverer and JRE 1.6.0_43, you would be best-served by a formal Service Request against Discoverer.
