Critical Patch Update for July 2013 Now Available

Elke Phelps
Product Management Director

The  Critical Patch Update (CPU) for July 2013 was released on July 16, 2013. Oracle strongly recommends applying the patches as soon as possible.

The Critical Patch Update Advisory is the starting point for relevant information. It includes a list of products affected, pointers to obtain the patches, a summary of the security vulnerabilities, and links to other important documents.

Supported products that are not listed in the "Supported Products and Components Affected" Section of the advisory do not require new patches to be applied.

Also, it is essential to review the Critical Patch Update supporting documentation referenced in the Advisory before applying patches, as this is where you can find important pertinent information.

The Critical Patch Update Advisory is available at the following location:

The next four Critical Patch Update release dates are:

  • October 15, 2013
  • January 14, 2014
  • April 15, 2014

Oracle's release is utterly incomprehensible to the layman, who may require a "patch" of some sort, but does not know what to do, and is presented only with a welter of excessive detail and confusing technical terminology. I have been ping-ponged back and forth through Oracle's website, but found in each instance only more confusion, rather than a simple place of access to the necessary patch.

I still don't know what I need, or what to do, and have not successfully found the necessary patch.

Your alarmist e-mail provides no solution whtsoever.

I tried to seek a download through my web browser, but was in each instance sent back to your confusing website.

    Hello, Guest,

I can appreciate your frustration. I'm sorry that you feel that you've been spinning in circles. Given the distributed nature of these patches, the information is also distributed. Compounding the difficulty is that we have tight restrictions on what we can publish on things like blogs.

If you're using EBS, 12.0, or 12.1, you can refer to Note 1559732.1 for instructions on applying this CPU to your EBS environments:
