Creating Custom WSRP Portlets with EBS R12 Portlet Generator

Steven Chan
Senior Director

Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 comes with a small number of prebuilt portlets that can be used with Oracle WebCenter and Oracle Portal:  Applications Navigator, Favorites, and Worklist.  These portlets are JSR-168 and WSRP-compliant and can be used with third-party web development tools.

While those portlets do what you'd expect, you might need more options for embedding EBS functionality into your custom corporate websites.  That's possible -- you can create your own custom portlets using the EBS R12 Portlet Generator.

The Portlet Generator lets you convert existing standalone Oracle Application Framework regions into portlets.  These converted portlets can be integrated into any JSR-168/WSRP-compatible portal.

As you might expect, there are very specific conditions in which you can extract OA Framework regions into standalone portlets.  For more information about prerequisites and tips on using the Portlet Generator, see the Developer Tools section (Chapter 16) in the following guide:

Have you used this tool?

This is a relatively new tool, and our development team is very interested in hearing about your experiences with it.  If you have any feedback or suggestions, please post a comment here or drop me a private email with your thoughts.

And the most obvious use case is to embed something like the workflow notification inbox or your EBS favorites inside a portal like SharePoint. Cool!

We would like to Embed EBS Favorites and Worklist Portal in Sharepoint. Any documentation or pointers would be helpful.

Secondly doest portlet generator work in R12.0.6?

    Hello, Punit,

I don't have hands-on experience with Sharepoint, but if it supports WSRP or JSR-168, then the E-Business Suite portlets should work.

The Portlet Generator requires EBS 12.1.

    Regards,

    Steven

Has anyone done this: show workflow notification inbox or your EBS favorites, inside a portal like SharePoint 2010 or 2013?

I have downloaded web center Pre-built VM but am unable to start jdeveloper .I am getting an "unable to load DeleteMethodloadAccessorImpl" . tried changing jdev home to use jrockit but still getting the same error.

Has anyone tried using Prebuilt-VM. Are you having similar issue. Please let me know.

I am not able to copy error details message because VM is not allowing to copy the error details.

    Hello, Guest,

I'm sorry to hear that you've encountered an issue with this.

We can provide general conceptual guidance here, but I'm afraid that this blog isn't the best place to get technical support for specific issues like the one that you're working through.

Your best bet would be to log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to get one of our specialists engaged.

    Regards,

    Steven
