Announcing Continuous Innovation on Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2

Steven Chan
Senior Director

Oracle announced a “Continuous Innovation” release model for Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2, delivering ongoing applications and underlying technology stack updates without a major upgrade. At the same time, we are announcing Premier Support for Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2 through at least 2030.

This means that Oracle E-Business Suite customers already running on 12.2 can continue to access new applications functionality and separately uptake later versions of underlying technology for years to come, without the time and expense of a major release upgrade.

Oracle E-Business Suite customers historically have adopted new versions of the technology stack together with a new applications code level via a major release upgrade. This involved using Oracle’s Rapid Install tool to deliver new versions of Oracle Fusion Middleware platform technologies, a new applications code level, and upgrade scripts to move the schema, PL/SQL, and data in place to the new Oracle E-Business Suite release level.

It has been Oracle’s plan to move to a Continuous Innovation release model that separates technology stack updates from applications code updates, allowing E-Business Suite customers to consume later technology while retaining their current applications code level. We previously announced that we would start Continuous Innovation with the next major 12.X release, after the existing 12.2 release. We have since determined that we can implement Continuous Innovation on the existing 12.2 release, removing the need for a new 12.X release.

Is that the all 12.2 instance will have Premier support till 2030?
What is the release cycle for R12.2.X ? Is that will vary from Cloud and On-Prim?
Is the Oracle Forms will be decommissioned in R12.2.X , what is the strategy in technology space? What is the future of Oracle On Demand service?
Is that Oracle will continue to Invest in Ebiz ? means is the new functionality/compliance will be released in regular cycle? Or Customer will be advised to move to fusion or Cloud to avail the most updated features/Business process? Since most of the cases we hard that Ebiz is kind of in sustainability mode, all new Innovation will happen in Cloud, that's Good, but problem comes in data migration and customisation. Is there is any plan to define the Migration Path to Oracle Fusion?

We have seen the most of the Software company is very much advanced in Mobile software, But we haven't seen Oracle EBiz much in that space , What is Oracle strategy going forward on Mobile Framework?
What will be strategy of Reports Gong forward ? Endeca or anything else? What could be the successor of Oracle Discoverer ?

You have many good questions, many of which would be better answered in person rather than via a terse comment on a blog article.

I would strongly encourage you to raise these questions with your Oracle account manager. He or she can lay out our product roadmap and corporate strategy for you and arrange follow-up discussions with technical staff as needed.

    Hi Steven,
I understand that Oracle has the Premier Support for R12.2 till Dec-2030. But when I check for support DB there is none available till that period which are certified with R12.2. DB 12.1 version is certified with EBS R12.2 but the extended support ends for that DB version by Nov-2021 and post that will be on Sustainable support. We will not receive any patches for new issues on DB and will be risk running EBS 12.2 till 2030. Can you suggest the Oracle plan on this?

Atul, Oracle Database releases have a different lifetime support policy from Oracle E-Business Suite. Beginning with Database Release 12.2, additional releases of the Oracle Database will occur on an annual basis with updates to the Lifetime Support policy as needed. It will simply take more database release cycles before there is a database that is supported through 2030. You may need to upgrade your database to continue to receive database premier support. This is consistent with what is stated in the article...."once running Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2, you can access new applications functionality and separately uptake later versions of the underlying technology" (e.g, the database).

    Hope this helps.

    Good Day!
Could you please share the information about ERs implementation process. Previously enhancements could be introduced in future releases. But 12.2.8 is the last.
    Thanks in advance.

    Alex, Thanks for the inquiry.

Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2.8 is the LATEST release NOT the LAST release.

We are currently in the development phase of the next release, Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2.9 which will include enhancements.

We are also planning additional releases of Oracle E-Business Suite beyond 12.2.9 that will include additional enhancements.

With the iterations of new releases to include enhancements, new functionality, etc. is there are detailed document of all the new enhancements in detail for each version? We have the document for 12.2.7, however it is not detailed enough for our business users.

Is there anything that has the new features outlined at a more granular level?

    Appreciate the help.

    Hello Mary,

When you say you have the document for 12.2.7 but it is not detailed enough, which one (MOS Doc ID) do you mean?

We have many documents available to help you. If you are not already familiar with it, a suitable starting point might be "Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 Technology Stack Documentation Roadmap" (Doc ID 1934915.1).

A further list of resources can be found in "Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 Information Center - Documentation" (Doc ID 1583110.1).

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about specific EBS areas.
