News, tips and technical guidance to help you run Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud.

What is Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud?

Nadia Bendjedou
Vice President - Product Strategy

You can think of running Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud as running exactly the same Oracle E-Business Suite applications that you run on-premises in your datacenter today –  the same E-Business Suite applications you may have customized – on a combination of Oracle’s Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) offerings.

The main choices are:

  • Infrastructure: The Oracle Compute Cloud Service part of IaaS provides a highly scalable, competitively-priced compute capacity that can be used to host your application tier and (optionally) your database tier.

  • Infrastructure + Database: The Database Cloud Service part of PaaS can be used to run your database tier, allowing you to provision your chosen database configuration quickly and easily.
  • Infrastructure + Database + Application Management:  Optionally, you can get assistance with Oracle E-Business Suite applications and database management by deploying managed services on top of the infrastructure and platform services:
    • Oracle Managed Cloud Services (OMCS) manages your Oracle E-Business Suite environment on Oracle Cloud. The complete lifecycle management provided by this service includes patching, cloning, and regular technical/functional updates, along with an industry-leading application availability SLA.  [OMCS will also keep you up-to-date with the most recent security patches and latest product releases, so that you can both remain secure and benefit from the newest innovations.]
    • Alternatively, you can choose a partner to run your applications and perform applications DBA tasks such as patching and cloning, as well as upgrades and technology updates.

It will be helpful adding some additional information about Corente VPN information for extending on premise VPN to Oracle cloud.

    1. Which will enable connectivity between on premise to oracle cloud in a secured way.

    2. Also customer's In house/third party applications needs to be communicate to cloud database this can be solved by implementing Oracle Corente VPN.

    3. Customer's definitely worry about transmitting data over internet so the solution like encryption key and secured access via https certificate implementation are the solution for this.

It is highly recommended to use VPN for any integration from an Oracle E-Business Suite instance running in the Oracle Public Cloud to on-premises. For Oracle Public Cloud, there are several VPN options to choose from including VPN for Compute, Site to Site VPN and FastConnect. For more information, refer to the following and review with your Oracle Account Team:

Like Oracle E-Business Suite on-premises instances, you may implement TLS (which enables HTTPS for the application tier OHS) for an Oracle E-Business Suite running in the Oracle Public Cloud. You may use your own certificate. There are a few additional steps required when enabling TLS for Oracle E-Business Suite running in the Oracle Public Cloud. The Oracle Public Cloud Infrastructure team will be publishing guidance on this topic.

    Hi Terri,

Thanks for sharing more information regarding secured connectivity.

1.Is It possible setup RAC deployment in IaaS with public and private networks with ASM storage?

2.Is it possible to configure shared APPL_TOP in cloud? APPL_TOP storage needs to be shared across EBS AppsTier Nodes. Can I configure OCFS / NFS shared file system for APPL_TOP? or any other solution recommends for this?

    1. No, the Compute Service does not support this.

    2. Yes, shared appl_top can be implemented using NFS. Note that this is done automatically for you when you follow the procedure in Provisioning a New Multi-Node Oracle E-Business Suite Installation in the Oracle Compute Cloud Service -

"the same E-Business Suite applications you may have customized – on a combination of Oracle’s Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) offerings." - Does it mean the existing customization can be moved to cloud and you support them? or we need to rebuild them on par with PaaS/IaaS standards?

It depends on what you mean by customization. When you lift and shift your Oracle E-Business Suite environment to Oracle Cloud, everything in your EBS application tier (including your appl_top and custom_top) and the database (including EBS schemas and EBS objects and custom schemas and custom objects) is moved to Oracle Cloud. If you have added custom applications using supported methods (adsplice, etc.), then those will be reflected in the file system and in the database and will work the same in the cloud.

If you are instead speaking of external integrations, these will need to be evaluated individually. You may choose to move them to the cloud, reimplement in the cloud, or leave them on-premises.
