News, tips and technical guidance to help you run Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud.

Using EBS Development Tools in Oracle Compute Cloud

Santiago Bastidas
Product Management Director

Recent articles in this blog have talked about provisioning, lift and shift, and hybrid management for Oracle E-Business Suite environments in Oracle Cloud. This article will build on these basics to describe how these EBS environments can be customized to meet the requirements of your business.

There are two main alternatives for customizing or extending the EBS user interface: Oracle Application Framework (OA Framework) and Oracle Forms. OA Framework is the preferred technology, and continues to be refined and enhanced. We therefore recommend you develop all new customizations in OA Framework. Oracle Forms is still available, and intended primarily for maintenance of existing forms.

The Oracle E-Business Suite Tools image, available from the Oracle Cloud Marketplace, can be used to provision an Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 or 12.1.3 development environment in the Oracle Compute Cloud Service. This environment is then available for creating and managing customizations.

The development environment contains an Oracle JDeveloper installation that includes Release 12.2 and 12.1 OA Framework libraries. The Creating an Oracle E-Business Suite Development Environment in the Oracle Compute Cloud Service tutorial provides step-by-step instructions to:

  1. Provision the development environment
  2. Configure Oracle JDeveloper to work with an existing EBS cloud environment
  3. Configure the development environment to run Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports from the existing EBS cloud environment

    Hi Santiago,

Is using the Developer VM the only supported method for customizing cloud based EBS? Or Desktop based tools from On Premise Desktops (JDev,SQL Dev/Toad etc) can also be used ?

    Thanks,

    Roy

    Hi Roy,

The Development Tools VM is one option to quickly get the basic tools you need to customize your EBS environment. Desktop based tools from On Premise desktops can also be used, but you have to keep in mind the EBS Database connectivity. We strongly recommend the use of VPN when EBS Database access is required.

    Regards,

    Santiago
