We are pleased to announce that Oracle Cloud Infrastructure File Storage Service (FSS) is now certified and can be used to provide the shared disk resource for an Oracle E-Business Suite shared application tier file system.
What is an EBS shared application tier file system?
Oracle E-Business Suite can be deployed with multiple application tier nodes working with an Oracle E-Business Suite database. When deploying an Oracle E-Business Suite application tier with multiple nodes, you can have either a shared or non-shared application tier file system. When using a shared application tier file system, the Oracle E-Business Suite application tier file system is shared with each node in the multi-node environment.
We highly recommend that you use a shared application tier file system when deploying multiple application tier nodes. Doing so will help reduce disk space and maintenance requirements.
Note: If you use the EBS Cloud Admin Tool for provisioning or lift and shift, you have the option to automatically deploy a shared application tier file system.
What is Oracle File Storage Service (FSS)?
FSS is a persistent, shared file system in Oracle Cloud. FSS provides a durable, scalable, distributed, enterprise-grade network file system. FSS supports NFSv3 and is fully-managed and offered across all availability domains in each Oracle Cloud Infrastructure region.
You can connect to a File Storage Service file system from any Bare Metal, virtual machine, or container instance in your Virtual Cloud Network (VCN). You can also access a file system from outside the VCN using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure FastConnect and Internet Protocol security (IPSec) virtual private network (VPN).
For more information regarding FSS, refer to the online FSS documentation.
Note: Creating a file system using FSS will have cost implications for your Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) account. Refer to the following for additional information:
How do I use FSS with EBS on OCI?
Using FSS for the shared application tier file system is an optional procedure for an existing deployment of Oracle E-Business Suite in OCI. The existing Oracle E-Business Suite system can be created manually or using Oracle automation tools, and must include the following: a Virtual Cloud Network (VCN), subnet(s), a load balancer, and at minimum 1 application tier node and 1 database node.
To deploy FSS with EBS on OCI, follow the guidelines in the Oracle by Example (OBE) tutorial: Sharing the Application Tier File System in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 or 12.1.3 Using the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure File Storage Service.
