Lift and Shift Available for Moving EBS on Solaris to Oracle Cloud

John Abraham

The term Lift and Shift refers to the process of copying an on-premises Oracle E-Business Suite environment to Oracle Cloud. The cloud copy (clone) can initially be used for development and testing, and subsequently - when you are ready - as part of a migration of your production environment to Oracle Cloud.

We are pleased to announce a Lift and Shift capability for moving your on-premises Oracle E-Business Suite environments running on Solaris SPARC to the SPARC Model 300 (part of the Oracle Compute Cloud Service - Dedicated Compute Capacity in Oracle Cloud). This capability is available for EBS Release 12.2.3 (or later) or Release 12.1.3.

SPARC Model 300 is an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offering that provides computing, block storage and networking services with the latest high performance SPARC M7 processor. The infrastructure (hardware, firmware, virtualized instances) is installed and maintained by the Oracle Cloud team, with one system guaranteed per customer.

To lift and shift a copy of your entire on-premises EBS environment  to Oracle Cloud, you may follow the tutorials and use the tools we provide. You start by configuring Compute instances running Solaris on the SPARC Model 300 that will host your EBS environment in Oracle Cloud. The cloning tool then does the following:

  1. Clones your on-premises database and primary application tiers to local stage areas.
  2. Copies the contents of the local stage areas to the cloud stage areas.
  3. Uses the contents of the cloud stage areas to configure your cloud EBS environment.
