EBS on OCI Updates (including New Cloud Manager UI) for September 2018

We are pleased to announce availability of updates to our EBS cloud automation for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Three key new features are highlighted below.

New Feature 1: Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Manager

Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Manager is a tool that offers a graphical user interface for creating, managing, and configuring Oracle E-Business Suite environments on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. It is the successor to the EBS Cloud Admin Tool, and is first being introduced for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

User Interface

The graphical user interface of Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Manager replaces the character-based user interface of the EBS Cloud Admin Tool.

Capabilities

You can use Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Manager to perform the following tasks:

  • Simplified and advanced provisioning
  • Provision environments from backups created using the EBS Cloud Backup Module as part of a lift and shift operation
  • Clone environment (Compute only)
  • Delete environment

Deployment

To deploy this new tool, follow the comprehensive instructions in Deploying Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Manager on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (Doc ID 2434500.1).

As well as covering account setup and network resources creation, this document also describes in detail how to perform the two supported scenarios of:

  • Fresh installation of Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Manager
  • Migrate from the EBS Cloud Admin Tool to Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Manager

Note that an Oracle Cloud Infrastructure account enabled for Oracle Identity Cloud Service is a requirement for use of this tool.

New Feature 2: Automation Support for VM DB System (Single Instance)

Both Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Manager (described above) and Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Backup Module (described below) provide automation support for an additional database platform: 1-Node VM DB System (Single Instance).

On a related note, be aware that the 1-Node DB System Bare Metal (Single Instance) database platform is deprecated for all combinations of Oracle E-Business Suite Releases 12.2 and 12.1.3 with Oracle Database Releases 12.1.0.2 and 11.2.0.4.

New Feature 3: Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Backup Module

The Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Backup Module (EBSCloudBackup.pl) is a stand-alone tool that interviews the user to establish settings, and then uses those settings to back up an Oracle E-Business Suite environment to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage. This replaces the EBS Cloud Backup Utility in releases prior to version 18.3.1.

To obtain the Oracle E-Business Backup Module, download Patch 28414122 from My Oracle Support, and then follow the instructions in the Oracle by Example tutorial Backing Up an Oracle E-Business Suite Instance to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
