Deploying Mobile Apps with Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud

Vijay Shanmugam
Director

Overview

Oracle provides a family of Oracle E-Business Suite mobile applications that enable users to perform needed tasks or actions on EBS from their Apple and Android smartphones. Examples include handling approval requests through the mobile app for approvals, or performing time entry on the mobile app for timecards. For the full list of available applications, refer to the Oracle E-Business Suite Mobile Apps, Release 12.1 and 12.2 Documentation Index

The process of implementing Oracle E-Business Suite mobile applications is the same whether EBS is running in Oracle Cloud or on-premises. This article starts by describing the key implementation steps, and goes on to discuss the options for connecting the mobile applications to EBS.

Mobile Apps Implementation Steps

The high-level steps for implementing mobile apps for Oracle E-Business Suite are as follows:

  1. Apply prerequisite patches on the Oracle E-Business Suite server.
  2. Configure the mobile apps on the Oracle E-Business Suite server.
  3. Set up mobile app access to responsibilities.
  4. Perform any device-specific setup steps: integrating with contacts, maps, barcode scanner, etc.
  5. Complete any additional steps specific to the mobile app.
  6. Advise users how to obtain and set up the app.

To learn more about setup and architecture of the mobile applications, refer to the Oracle E-Business Suite Mobile Apps Administrator's Guide.

Connectivity Options

The following connectivity options are available with EBS mobile apps:

  1. Oracle E-Business Suite is deployed on-premises or on Oracle Cloud, with access to the instance through VPN. This means that the mobile apps can connect only after the mobile device is connected to the network using VPN.
  2. Oracle E-Business Suite is deployed on-premises or on Oracle Cloud, but the instance is exposed to the Internet using a DMZ.
  3. Oracle E-Business Suite is deployed on Oracle Cloud, and the instance is directly accessible from the Internet. This configuration may be appropriate for development purposes only.

These options are illustrated below.

Summary

Users can download these EBS mobile apps from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. EBS smartphone apps are included in the license for the base product,  with the mobile services configured on the Oracle E-Business Suite server. To find Oracle E-Business Suite mobile apps, search for the keywords "Oracle America EBS" in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Oracle E-Business Suite mobile apps are compatible with both Release 12.2 (12.2.3 and higher) and Release 12.1.3.
