New GL Recommended Patch Collection Released by Development

Since E-Business Suite 12.1 was released, very important fixes were delivered by Development to improve your experience with General Ledger or introduce solutions for reported issues that might affect critical business processes.

Many patches are available. How to select those being relevant for your business?

RPC's (Recommended Patch Collections) make this choice easy!

What are they? Collections of compact, reliable patches addressing issues that occur often and interfere with normal completion of crucial business processes

Why RPC's? They are tested, quality-assured compared to one-off patches and smaller in footprint compared to RUP's (Release Uptake Patches)

When? As soon as possible! Maximize your experience with GL Release 12.1, minimize the patch adoption effort!

Fixed Assets Recommended Patch Collections

After the introduction of the Recommended Patch Collections (RPCs) in late 2012, Fixed Assets development has released an RPC about every six months.  You may recall that an RPC is a collection of recommended patches consolidated into a single, downloadable patch, ready to be applied.  The RPCs are created with the following goals in mind:

  • Stability:  Address issues that occur often and interfere with the normal completion of crucial business processes, such as period close--as observed by Oracle Development and Global Customer Support.
  • Root Cause Fixes:  Deliver a root cause fix for data corruption issues that delay period close, normal transaction flow actions, performance, and other issues.
  • Compact:  While bundling a large number of important corrections, the file footprint is kept as small as possible to facilitate uptake and minimize testing.
  • Reliable:  Reliable code with multiple customer downloads and comprehensive testing by QA, Support and Proactive Support.

There has been a revision to the RPC release process for spring 2014.  Instead of releasing product-specific RPCs, development has released a 12.1.3 RPC that is EBS-wide.  This EBS RPC includes all product-recommended patches along with their dependencies.

To find out more about this EBS-wide RPC, please review Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3+ Recommended Patch Collection 1 (RPC1) (Doc ID 1638535.1).

Thursday Apr 24, 2014

So I heard about the R12.1.3+ EBS Wide RPC, how is that different than the 12.1.3 Procurement Rollup Patches?

For 12.1.3 most of us follow Doc ID 1468883.1 and apply the current Procurement Rollup Patch (RUP) listed, but lately there has been a lot of information being circulated about the Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3+ Recommended Patch Collection 1 (RPC1).

The last RUP for Oracle Procurement was released in January 2014 (18120913:R12.PRC_PF.B) and the good news it is included in the new RPC1!  So if you are running R12.1.3 but have not yet applied the January 2014 RUP that is specific for Procurement then you can instead choose to apply this latest R12.1.3+ patch.  RPC1 includes rollup patches for many of our Product Family groups in the EBusiness Suite like ATG, CRM, HRMS, Supply Chain Management and more!

Applying this patch in a single downtime patching window saves effort and time, rather than applying each recommended patch individually.

For more information on the R12.1.3+  RPC please refer to Doc ID 1638535.1 - Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3+ Recommended Patch Collection 1 (RPC1)

Should You Apply The R12.1.3+ EBS Wide RPC or Wait for a Payables Specific RPC?

Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3+ Recommended Patch Collection is Available!

The last RPC for Oracle Payables was released in September 2013 (Doc ID 1397581.1) and usually at this time of year we see development release the next RPC for Payables.   However, this year there will not be a new Payables RPC released until much later in the year.

Instead of a March 2014 Payables RPC development have released the 12.1.3+ RPC that is EBS wide.  This patch includes ALL the recommended patches along with their dependencies.

If you are running R12.1.3 but have not yet applied the September 2013 RPCs for Payables then you can instead choose to apply this latest R12.1.3+ patch which includes all the RPCs for Payables and the companion RPCs for Workflow, PCard and iSupplier in addition to Cash Management and EBTax RPCs.

Note: Before upgrading to Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3 and applying 12.1.3+ E-Business Suite RPC1, refer to Doc ID 761570.1 - Database Preparation Guidelines for an Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1 Upgrade - and ensure that all patches for your specific database release are applied to your environment.

Did you know the Sep 2013 RPC's for AP, IBY, CE, EBTax, Workflow and iSupplier are available?

The latest Recommended Patch Collections (RPC's) for EBS Financials were released for many EBS Financials products in September 2013.

Oracle Support highly recommends that all R12.1.3 customers apply these RPCs.  Each RPC is a collection of recommended patches created with the following goals in mind:

  • Stability: Address issues that occur often and interfere with the normal completion of crucial business processes, such as period close - as observed by Oracle Development and Global Customer Support.
  • Root Cause Fixes: Deliver a root cause fix for data corruption issues that delay period close, normal transaction flow actions, performance and many more..
  • Compact: Whilst bundling a large number of important corrections, we have kept the file footprint as small as possible to facilitate uptake and minimize testing.
  • Reliable: Reliable code with multiple customer downloads and comprehensive testing by QA, Support and Proactive Support.

For Oracle Payables products, there are RPC's for the following areas:

Core AP Doc ID 1397581.1
iSupplier/Suppliers Doc ID 1397581.1
Workflow/Procurement Card Doc ID 1397581.1
Payments Doc ID 1481221.1
Cash Management Doc ID 1367845.1
E-Business Tax Doc ID 1481235.1
Subleger Accounting Doc ID 1481222.1

For Payables in particular, these are strongly advised to prevent known data integrity issues from resurfacing.  The Generic Data Fix (GDF) patches that are available to fix issues detected by the Master GDF (
Doc ID 1360390.1) will only fix existing data but the root causes for these data integrity issues cannot be eliminated until the code is upgraded by applying the specific Root Cause Analysis (RCA) patch or the latest RPC.
