E-Business CRM Install Base Analyzer is Now Available!

Oracle Install Base is an item instance life cycle tracking application that facilitates enterprise-wide life cycle item management and tracking capability.  In a typical process flow a sales order is created and shipped, which updates Inventory and creates a new item instance in Install Base (IB). The Inventory update results in a record being placed in the Service Fulfillment Manager (SFM) Event Queue.  If the record is successfully processed the IB tables are updated - if there is an error the record needs to be resolved so that the IB instance can be created and maintained.

Due to various causes, everything from user setups, code bugs, or wrong data being entered, transactions can be delayed or hindered from updating the Install Base.  This can cause errors and processing delays in other modules such as Asset Tracking, Service, Contracts, Field Service and many other modules that depend on the timely and accurate update of the IB tables.

Now you can proactively find issues before they impact your business users and customers by utilizing our newest tool -  the IB Analyzer.  See Doc ID 1597450.1 for details and to download the script.

The Install Base Analyzer is designed to make recommendations on best practices and reveal areas of concern based on your current setup and transaction statuses. It can be run manually or as a concurrent request. There are currently 24 checks (more will be added over time) for various areas such as profile and parameter setups, patching level, invalid objects, Event queue message statuses, inconsistent lot and revision control item setups, top transaction error summaries and a number of known errors and their solutions.

IB Analyzer output example

This script is a non-invasive, safe, read-only script that can be run in your Production environment.  The output is in HTML form, is user friendly and easy to navigate.  And best of all, for those problems that are identified, we provide direct links to their known solutions.

We will continue to improve and update the IB Analyzer as we identify problem trends and common errors.  Please try out the tool and let us know what you think.  We are open to questions, comments, concerns and any ideas for improvement you may have.

Come and see all that the IB Analyzer (Doc ID 1597450.1) can do for you today and provide us your feedback!

Guidelines For Applying Install Base and Asset Tracking Patches

If you use Oracle Install Base or Asset Tracking modules in your EBS implementation then Doc ID 1604288.1: Guidelines For Applying A Patch In Install Base (CSI) And Asset Tracking (CSE) Modules is a must-read.

The purpose of the document is to list all mandatory and optional steps required whenever an Install Base (CSI) or Asset Tracking (CSE) patch is applied on an environment.  Following the steps given you will help you to avoid some of the common errors and problems that are typically reported after applying a CSI/CSE patch.
For example:
  1) Database objects (especially Package Bodies) become invalid, resulting in transactions not properly interfaced in Install Base.
  2) Code fixes introduced by a given patch are not used by user browser session, resulting in reporting that issue is not fixed even after applying the given patch.

Take a look at Doc ID 1604288.1 now and bookmark it ready for the next time you have to apply a CSI/CSE patch.

Web Applications Desktop Integrator (WebADI) Feature for Install Base Mass Update in 12.1.3

Purpose

The integration of WebADI technology with the Install Base Mass Update function is designed to make creation and update of bulk item instances much easier than in the past.

What is it?

WebADI is an Excel-based desktop application where users can download an Excel template with item instances pre-populated based on search criteria.  Users can create and update item instances in the Excel sheet and finally upload the Excel data using an "upload" option available in the Excel menu. On upload, the modified data will bulk upload to interface tables which are processed by an asynchronous concurrent program that users can monitor for the uploaded results.

Advantage:

This allows users to work in a disconnected Environment: session time outs can be avoided, as once a template is downloaded the user can work in a disconnected environment and once all updates are done the new input can be uploaded. Also the data can be saved for later update and upload.

Install Base Transaction Error Troubleshooting

Oracle Installed Base is an item instance life cycle tracking application that facilitates enterprise-wide life cycle item management and tracking capability.

In a typical process flow a sales order is created and shipped, this updates Inventory and creates a new item instance in Install Base (IB).  The Inventory update results in a record being placed in the SFM Event Queue.  If the record is successfully processed the IB tables are updated, if there is an error the record is placed in the csi_txn_errors table and the error needs to be resolved so that the IB instance can be created.

It's extremely important to be proactive and monitor IB Transaction Errors regularly.  Errors cascade and can build up exponentially if not resolved. Due to this cascade effect, error records need to be considered as a whole and not individually; the root cause of any error needs to be resolved first and this may result in the subsequent errors resolving themselves.

Install Base Transaction Error Diagnostic Program

In the past the IBtxnerr.sql script was used to diagnose transaction errors, this is now replaced by an enhanced concurrent program version of the script. See the following note for details of how to download, install and run the concurrent program as well as details of how to interpret the results:

Doc ID 1501025.1 - Install Base Transaction Error Diagnostic Program

The program provides comprehensive information about the errors found as well as links to known knowledge articles which can help to resolve the specific error.
