Should You Apply The R12.1.3+ EBS Wide RPC or Wait for a Payables Specific RPC?

Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3+ Recommended Patch Collection is Available!

The last RPC for Oracle Payables was released in September 2013 (Doc ID 1397581.1) and usually at this time of year we see development release the next RPC for Payables.   However, this year there will not be a new Payables RPC released until much later in the year.

Instead of a March 2014 Payables RPC development have released the 12.1.3+ RPC that is EBS wide.  This patch includes ALL the recommended patches along with their dependencies. 


If you are running R12.1.3 but have not yet applied the September 2013 RPCs for Payables then you can instead choose to apply this latest R12.1.3+ patch which includes all the RPCs for Payables and the companion RPCs for Workflow, PCard and iSupplier in addition to Cash Management and EBTax RPCs.  

Applying this patch in a single downtime patching window saves effort and time, rather than applying each recommended patch individually.

Note: Before upgrading to Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3 and applying 12.1.3+ E-Business Suite RPC1, refer to Doc ID 761570.1 - Database Preparation Guidelines for an Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1 Upgrade - and ensure that all patches for your specific database release are applied to your environment.

Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.10 is now in Sustaining Support

A reminder that Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.10 moved into Sustaining Support on December 1st, 2013.  The period from December 1, 2013 to December 31, 2015 is covered by an Exception to Sustaining Support.  Customers may receive E-Business Suite 11.5.10 patches for Severity 1 issues until December 31, 2015.

To be eligible for new Severity 1 bug fixes under the Sustaining Support Exception, customers must meet the defined minimum baseline patching as per Doc ID 883202.1 - Patch Requirements for Sustaining Support for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11.5.10.

Diagnostic: HCM Technical Analyzer Now Available!

The HCM Proactive Support Delivery Team is introducing the HCM Technical Analyzer, a Health-Check script which reviews your overall HCM footprint by analyzing your current configurations and settings for your HCM environment.  The HCM Technical Analyzer is a non-invasive script which is designed to provide proactive feedback and recommendations associated with the HCM instance on which the analyzer is executed.

This Analyzer / Health Check / Data Collection tool is a PL*Sql script which will check the E-Business Suite environment and can be executed on all currently released / supported application versions  (i.e. 11.5.10.2, 12.0, 12.1, and 12.2).   As the process executes, it will output diagnostics advice and proactive recommendations within an .html output file.

When reviewing the analyzer output, you can immediately see where issues are identified as they are displayed in red (errors), orange (warnings) or blue (best practices), so that they can be easily seen.  In addition to identifying areas of concern, the analyzer will also identify My Oracle Support (MOS) articles which can be utilized to resolve the issue.

The Analyzer can be executed using one of two 'Run Type' parameters: 

  • Run Type = ISSUES, which will execute the Analyzer / Health Check with the output geared to customer problem resolution. This option will display only those sections where an issue or potential issue is identified so that you the customer can proactively address them.
  • Run Type = ALL, which will execute the Analyzer as a Data Collection tool which can be used to assist an Oracle Support Engineer in resolving an issue.

 The Analyzer is designed specifically to be used with the Human Capital Management (HCM) products, which is driven by the following input parameter values:

  • BEN - Benefits
  • HR - Human Resources
  • IRC - iRecuitment
  • OTL - Oracle Time and Labor
  • PAY - Payroll
  • SSHR - Self Service Human Resources
  • ALL - All HCM products above.

When the Analyzer is executed an environment review is performed and feedback provided on: 

  • Performance related setups and checks
  • Invalid objects, disabled triggers, and database issues
  • Profile settings
  • Packages and java classes version
  • Patching status.

It is recommended that this script be setup as a concurrent request from the E-Business Suite interface so that it maybe executed by either Functional or Technical representatives from your business.

Oracle E-Business Products New Search Helpers for Guided Resolution of Customer Issues

Oracle E-Business Proactive Support has created many new guided resolution documents that you may find helpful in resolving issues in your EBS applications.  These new documents are called “Search Helpers” and they guide you through your issue to a solution.  They are meant to be an easy and fast method to finding a relevant, complete solution.

Hundreds of notes and service requests were reviewed and the best solutions to these known issues were selected.  For some issues, notes were updated to better clarify the solution.  In other cases, if a note with a solution did not already exist, one was created.

You start the process by selecting the scenario you have encountered.  You may have received an error message, or there may be a particular area of the application in which you have encountered an issue.  Based on your selection of the issue, the Search Helper will present one or more additional possible symptoms.  When you have selected from both of these two sections, you are then presented with one or more articles known to have fully solved this issue in the past. 

Several EBS products have produced Search Helpers documents.  Take a look at Doc ID 1501724.1 for an index of the current EBS Search Helpers. 

Here is an example of a Search Helper from the Receivables Transactions area:

After selecting the Functional Area of "Entering / Updating Transactions" a list of Known Symptoms is presented:

Android App: “Oracle Now”

For Android users, the “Oracle Now” App is a helpful addition to your support tools. When I first tried the “Oracle Now” Android App, I thought that it was purely a newsfeed and a list of upcoming conferences. A closer look proves that was just the start. Scrolling the header to the far right, I found the Support tab. The Support tab provides more features than I expected. I can quickly access my favorite notes or search for new topics. It also lets me track SRs and update on the go. This is a handy app to have available during a meeting so you can quickly give the status of an SR or reference your favorite knowledge content document without waiting to get back to your desk. A similar app is available for iPhone.

The Critical Patch Update Advisory is the starting point for relevant information. It includes a list of products affected, pointers to obtain the patches, a summary of the security vulnerabilities, and links to other important documents.
