Easy Assistance for Troubleshooting Issues

As we have discussed in previous blog entries, sometimes it seems like you have to be 'Carnac the Magnificent' when searching for a solution in MyOracle Support (MOS). Besides our previous suggestions on techniques for knowing how to search, sometimes for broad issues, the hardest part of searching is a starting point. Maybe you are having an issue like a problem logging a service request (SR). Maybe you are looking at an issue in your Oracle Database or EBS Product specific area where there are many MOS notes offering solutions. In scenario's like these, the Inventory Blog Team suggests using a Troubleshooting Assistant.

Troubleshooting Assistants help narrow a search based on a series of questions that guide you to a solution. They are very much like the new 'Guided Resolution' feature that is now available for some SR problem types when logging SR's. They are also available in many different Oracle Product areas, and for many different issues. Wait...what's that? We are divining that you are asking, "How do I find one of these helpful Troubleshooting Assistants?" Well it's very simple oh honorable one. In MyOracle Support (MOS) make sure your Powerview is off, then search using the term ‘Troubleshooting Assistant’. This will return Troubleshooting Assistants across different Product areas. Or use Powerview to search for Troubleshooting Assistants for a specific Product. Or simply select one when you see it during a search in MOS. It's that easy.

Doc ID 1391970.2 above for EBS Inventory/Receiving RVTII-060 errors, is a prime example of a broad issue where there are many possible solutions. The Inventory Blog Team would certainly recommend using this assistant if the RVTII-060 error occurs.

Troubleshooting Assistants are living documents that are regularly updated with recent updated information, so it's helpful to bookmark the docs for future reference. Troubleshooting Assistants are another tool offered by Oracle Support to help with fast and easy solutions, and again, here's to successful searching in MOS!

HCM: Introducing the 'HCM Person Analyzer' for EBS Human Capital Management

HCM Product Support is introducing the HCM Person Analyzer - an Analyzer/Data Collection tool to assist in displaying information for a specific person or multiple persons.  The information can be used by both customers and Oracle Support to analyze and troubleshoot issues for a person and their related HCM data (including assignments, elements, periods of service, etc).

The analyzer provides similar information currently gathered from Diagnosing Oracle HCM Person Issues Using PER.zip Doc ID 168181.1 but in an HTML format.

Additional benefits of the HCM Person Analyzer include:

  • Parameter driven, so can be executed for a single person_id  or multiple person_ids
  • Ability to execute the analyzer at any time
  • Can be setup as concurrent request

This is the initial delivery of the analyzer.  Over time, we expect to release enhanced versions of the script which identify potential data issues and highlight My Oracle Support (MOS) articles which can be used to resolve an issue.

The Analyzer is a PL*Sql script which can be run for all supported application versions (11i, 12.0, 12.1, 12.2) and provides the following types of information:

  • Instance, database and installation details
  • Patching status
  • Person complete information
  • Common Information

To obtain the HCM Person Analyzer, go to

EBS Human Capital Management (HCM) Person Analyzer Doc ID 1675487.1

When reviewing the analyzer output, you can immediately see complete person(s) information.

Instructions on how this Analyzer can be set up as a concurrent request so that functional users will have the ability to run the Analyzer as required are available in:

How to run Human Capital Management (HCM) Person Analyzer as a Concurrent Request. Doc ID 1675488.1

So I heard about the R12.1.3+ EBS Wide RPC, how is that different than the 12.1.3 Procurement Rollup Patches?

For 12.1.3 most of us follow Doc ID 1468883.1 and apply the current Procurement Rollup Patch (RUP) listed, but lately there has been a lot of information being circulated about the Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3+ Recommended Patch Collection 1 (RPC1).

The last RUP for Oracle Procurement was released in January 2014 (18120913:R12.PRC_PF.B) and the good news it is included in the new RPC1!  So if you are running R12.1.3 but have not yet applied the January 2014 RUP that is specific for Procurement then you can instead choose to apply this latest R12.1.3+ patch.  RPC1 includes rollup patches for many of our Product Family groups in the EBusiness Suite like ATG, CRM, HRMS, Supply Chain Management and more!

Applying this patch in a single downtime patching window saves effort and time, rather than applying each recommended patch individually.

For more information on the R12.1.3+  RPC please refer to Doc ID 1638535.1 - Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3+ Recommended Patch Collection 1 (RPC1)

Thursday Apr 10, 2014

Should You Apply The R12.1.3+ EBS Wide RPC or Wait for a Payables Specific RPC?

Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3+ Recommended Patch Collection is Available!

The last RPC for Oracle Payables was released in September 2013 (Doc ID 1397581.1) and usually at this time of year we see development release the next RPC for Payables.   However, this year there will not be a new Payables RPC released until much later in the year.

Instead of a March 2014 Payables RPC development have released the 12.1.3+ RPC that is EBS wide.  This patch includes ALL the recommended patches along with their dependencies.

If you are running R12.1.3 but have not yet applied the September 2013 RPCs for Payables then you can instead choose to apply this latest R12.1.3+ patch which includes all the RPCs for Payables and the companion RPCs for Workflow, PCard and iSupplier in addition to Cash Management and EBTax RPCs.

Note: Before upgrading to Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3 and applying 12.1.3+ E-Business Suite RPC1, refer to Doc ID 761570.1 - Database Preparation Guidelines for an Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1 Upgrade - and ensure that all patches for your specific database release are applied to your environment.
